Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation in Sickle Cell Disease: A Multidimentional Review
Cell Transplant. 2024 Jan-Dec;33:9636897241246351. doi: 10.1177/09636897241246351.ABSTRACTWhile exagamglogene autotemcel (Casgevy) and lovotibeglogene autotemcel (Lyfgenia) have been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as the first cell-based gene therapies for the treatment of patients 12 years of age and older with sickle cell disease (SCD), this treatment is not universally accessible. Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) has the potential to eradicate the symptoms of patients with SCD, but a significant obstacle in HSCT for SCD is the availability of suitable donors, particularly human...

S100 calcium ‑binding protein A16 suppresses the osteogenic differentiation of rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells by inhibiting SMAD family member 4 signaling
Exp Ther Med. 2024 Apr 15;27(6):250. doi: 10.3892/etm.2024.12538. eCollection 2024 Jun.ABSTRACTOsteogenesis is a complex process of bone formation regulated by various factors, yet its underlying molecular mechanisms remain incompletely understood. The present study aimed to investigate the role of S100A16, a novel member of the S100 protein family, in the osteogenic differentiation of rat bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) and uncover a novel Smad4-mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK)/Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) signaling axis. In the present study, the expression level of S100A16 in bone tissues and BMSCs from...

Secretome of adipose derived-mesenchymal stem cells reduces the < em > Vibrio cholerae < /em > attachment to Caco-2 cells and subsequent inflammatory responses
CONCLUSION: The secretome of AD-MSCs can play a critical role in inhibiting bacterial colonization, and subsequent inflammatory responses, and maintaining the integrity of the epithelial barrier. The secretome may be effective in the prevention of hypovolemic shock.PMID:38682070 | PMC:PMC11055443 | DOI:10.18502/ijm.v16i1.14875 (Source: Iranian Journal of Microbiology)

In vitro anti-leukemic effect of Wharton's jelly derived mesenchymal stem cells
CONCLUSIONS: MSCs are known to inhibit the growth of tumors of both hematopoietic and non-hematopoietic origin in vitro. In our study, WJ-MSC treatment strongly inhibited the viability of HL-60 and K562 and induced apoptosis. Our results also provided new insights into the inhibition of tumor growth by WJ-MSCs in vitro. In the future, WJ-MSCs could be used to inhibit cancer cells in clinical applications.PMID:38683436 | DOI:10.1007/s11033-024-09512-7 (Source: Mol Biol Cell)

Developing a pathway to clinical trials for < em > CACNA1A < /em > -related epilepsies: A patient organization perspective
Ther Adv Rare Dis. 2024 Apr 25;5:26330040241245725. doi: 10.1177/26330040241245725. eCollection 2024 Jan-Dec.ABSTRACTCACNA1A-related disorders are rare neurodevelopmental disorders linked to variants in the CACNA1A gene. This gene encodes the α1 subunit of the P/Q-type calcium channel Cav2.1, which is globally expressed in the brain and crucial for fast synaptic neurotransmission. The broad spectrum of CACNA1A-related neurological disorders includes developmental and epileptic encephalopathies, familial hemiplegic migraine type 1, episodic ataxia type 2, spinocerebellar ataxia type 6, together with unclassified presentati...
