Association of Habitual Green Tea Consumption with Sarcopenia Assessed Using SARC-F in Community-Dwelling Japanese Older People: A Cross-Sectional Study
In this study of 364 participants (154 men and 210 women), the prevalence of sarcopenia risk was 9.3%. The multivariable-adjusted OR [95% CI] of green tea consumption for ≥1 cup/d compared with that of <1 cup/wk of sarcopenia was 0.312 [0.129-0.752]. Higher habitual green tea consumption was inversely associated with sarcopenia among Japanese older adults. Further longitudinal studies are required to confirm these findings.PMID:38684381 | DOI:10.3177/jnsv.70.117 (Source: Journal of Nutritional Science and Vitaminology)

Factors associated with the fragmentation and stability of the rest-activity rhythm in adults and older adults
Chronobiol Int. 2024 Apr 29:1-12. doi: 10.1080/07420528.2024.2346521. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis cross-sectional study aimed to identify factors related to the fragmentation and stability of the rest-activity rhythm (RAR) in adults and older adults. It is part of a larger research project investigating aspects concerning sleep duration, quality, and disorders in a representative subsample of the population. Sociodemographic data, lifestyle, health habits and subjective sleep variables were obtained; RAR records were collected by means of actigraphy and analyzed using non-parametric variables (IS, IV, M10, L5, RA, s...

Gene-Environment Interactions and Gene-Gene Interactions on Two Biological Age Measures: Evidence from Taiwan Biobank Participants
Adv Biol (Weinh). 2024 Apr 29:e2400149. doi: 10.1002/adbi.202400149. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPhenoAge and BioAge are two commonly used biological age (BA) measures. The author here searched for gene-environment interactions (GxE) and gene-gene interactions (GxG) on PhenoAgeAccel (age-adjusted PhenoAge) and BioAgeAccel (age-adjusted BioAge) of 111,996 Taiwan Biobank (TWB) participants, including a discovery set of 86,536 TWB2 individuals and a replication set of 25,460 TWB1 individuals. Searching for variance quantitative trait loci (vQTLs) provides a convenient way to evaluate GxE and GxG. A total of 4 nearly indepen...

Dysregulation of base excision repair factors associated with low tumor immunogenicity in head and neck cancer: implication for immunotherapy
CONCLUSION: Our analysis suggests that dysregulation of the BER genes panel might be a potential prognosis marker and/or an attractive target for an immune checkpoint blockade in HNSCC cancers. However, our observation still requires further experimental-based scientific validation studies.PMID:38680291 | PMC:PMC11047243 | DOI:10.1177/17588359241248330 (Source: Adv Data)

The relationship between the World Index for Sustainability and Health (WISH) score and mental health in women: A cross-sectional study
The objective of this cross-sectional study was to explore the relationship between a newly developed dietary index for health and sustainability, and psychological disorders among Iranian women. Participants in this cross-sectional study included 479 women living in Tehran with no history of chronic disease. A validated 168-item food frequency questionnaire was used to assess dietary intake. The World Index for Sustainability and Health (WISH) was calculated, consisting of four sub-scores: less healthy, healthy, low environmental impact, and high environmental impact. Participants psychological status was assessed using t...

Prevalence, Reach of Anti-smokeless Tobacco Messages and Quit Attempts by Product Type: A Secondary Data Analysis from the Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS - 2016-17)
CONCLUSION: The reach of media messages and warning labels varies by SLT type. Quit intention and attempts vary by SLT type and access to media messages and warning labels. There is a need to re-strategise the tobacco control Information, Education and Communication (IEC) to reach out with effective messaging to the most unreached.PMID:38679988 | DOI:10.31557/APJCP.2024.25.4.1277 (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention)

Development and validation of a risk prediction model for hospital admission in COVID-19 patients presenting to primary care
CONCLUSION: We derived a risk model using readily available variables at GP assessment to predict hospital admission for COVID-19. It performed accurately across regions and waves. Further validation on cohorts with acquired immunity and newer SARS-CoV-2 variants is recommended.PMID:38682305 | DOI:10.1080/13814788.2024.2339488 (Source: European Journal of General Practice)

Added Clinical Value of Intraplaque Neovascularization Detection to Color Doppler Ultrasound for Assessing Ischemic Stroke Risk
CONCLUSION: Further assessment of intraplaque neovascularization after CDUS may help more accurately identify patients at risk of ischemic stroke. Combining multiparametric carotid ultrasound and clinical features may help improve the risk stratification of patients with ischemic stroke with ≥50% carotid stenosis.PMID:38681519 | PMC:PMC11055554 | DOI:10.2147/NDT.S456872 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Hyperlipidemia Prevention and Management Utilizing Lifestyle Changes
AbstractHyperlipidemia incidence is on the rise and lifestyle behavior change is the first-line therapy. Left untreated, hyperlipidemia can result in cardiovascular disease leading to increased morbidity and mortality in persons worldwide. Evidence has demonstrated behavioral changes such as increased exercise, healthy nutrition, smoking cessation, alcohol abstinence, and other lifestyle modification interventions significantly decrease the incidence and severity of hyperlipidemia. The purpose of this article is to review the evidence of lifestyle interventions in preventing and managing hyperlipidemia and to suggest innov...

Diabetes and vascular mild cognitive impairment among Chinese ≥50 years: A cross‐sectional study with 2020 participants
ConclusionIn our study, we found that diabetes had a positive correlation with VaMCI, and high education had a negative correlation with VaMCI. Therefore, early identification and timely intervention of diabetes may reduce the risk of VaMCI and achieve early prevention of VaMCI. (Source: Brain and Behavior)

Pregnancy complications and childhood mental health: is the association modified by sex or adverse social circumstances? Findings from the ‘growing up in Ireland’ national infant cohort study
We examined whether total number of complications experienced in the pregnancy associated with mental health at 5 and 9-years, and whether this varied by sex or adverse social circumstances. Pregnancy complications were self-reported at 9-months post-natally from a list of 16 complications. Parents completed the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) when their child was 5 and 9-years. The primary outcome was the SDQ-total and scoring in the clinical range (>  16) was a secondary outcome. We applied generalized linear mixed models to a large nationally representative Irish cohort (GUI; n = 11,134). Analyse...
