Social inequality in prevalence of NCD risk factors: a cross-sectional analysis from the population-based Tromso Study 2015-2016
Conclusion We found statistically significant educational gradients in women and men for all WHO-established leading NCD risk factors within a Nordic middle-aged to older general population. The prevalence of all risk factors increased at lower educational levels, except for harmful alcohol use, which increased at higher educational levels. (Source: BMJ Open)

61. Radiosynthesis and Evaluation of Pet Radioligands for Ion-Channel Based Chemogenetics
Pharmacologically Selective Actuator Molecules(PSAMs) are advanced chemogenetic tools used to manipulate neuronal activity in brain. A triple-mutant PSAM is called PSAM4. Here, PSAM4-GlyR is a chimeric ligand-gated ion channel comprising a mutated a7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor( α7-nAChR) ligand-binding domain with an inhibitory chloride-selective glycine receptor ion pore. To create an improved PET radioligand for verifying PSAM4 expression, we synthesized two analogs of varenicline, an anti-smoking drug that activates PSAM4 and evaluated their behavior as PET radioligand s in rats, mice, and monkeys. 29. Cues Augment Working Memory Proficiency in Smokers: Preliminary Evidence That Attentional Bias Enhances Executive Function
Attentional bias to drug-related cues is a core feature of addiction. Whereas attention bias is often associated with decrements in cognitive function, few studies have investigated the potential for cues to enhance cognition. We investigated the effects of smoking cues on working memory (WM) and neural engagement among cigarette smokers using a novel cued N-back task. (Source: Biological Psychiatry)

Development and validation of a risk prediction model for hospital admission in COVID-19 patients presenting to primary care
CONCLUSION: We derived a risk model using readily available variables at GP assessment to predict hospital admission for COVID-19. It performed accurately across regions and waves. Further validation on cohorts with acquired immunity and newer SARS-CoV-2 variants is recommended.PMID:38682305 | PMC:PMC11060008 | DOI:10.1080/13814788.2024.2339488 (Source: European Journal of General Practice)

Prevalence, Reach of Anti-smokeless Tobacco Messages and Quit Attempts by Product Type: A Secondary Data Analysis from the Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS - 2016-17)
CONCLUSION: The reach of media messages and warning labels varies by SLT type. Quit intention and attempts vary by SLT type and access to media messages and warning labels. There is a need to re-strategise the tobacco control Information, Education and Communication (IEC) to reach out with effective messaging to the most unreached.PMID:38679988 | DOI:10.31557/APJCP.2024.25.4.1277 (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention)

The mediating role of health behaviors in the association between depression, anxiety and cancer incidence: an individual participant data meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Smoking constitutes a mediating pathway linking depression and anxiety to lung cancer and smoking-related cancers. Our findings underline the importance of smoking cessation interventions for persons with depression or anxiety.PMID:38680088 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291724000850 (Source: Psychological Medicine)

Association of Habitual Green Tea Consumption with Sarcopenia Assessed Using SARC-F in Community-Dwelling Japanese Older People: A Cross-Sectional Study
In this study of 364 participants (154 men and 210 women), the prevalence of sarcopenia risk was 9.3%. The multivariable-adjusted OR [95% CI] of green tea consumption for ≥1 cup/d compared with that of <1 cup/wk of sarcopenia was 0.312 [0.129-0.752]. Higher habitual green tea consumption was inversely associated with sarcopenia among Japanese older adults. Further longitudinal studies are required to confirm these findings.PMID:38684381 | DOI:10.3177/jnsv.70.117 (Source: Journal of Nutritional Science and Vitaminology)

Prenatal and postnatal factors associated with sudden infant death syndrome: an umbrella review of meta-analyses
CONCLUSIONS: Based on the evidence, we propose several risk and protective factors for SIDS. This study suggests the need for further studies on SIDS-related factors supported by weak credibility, no association, or a lack of adequate research.PMID:38684567 | DOI:10.1007/s12519-024-00806-1 (Source: World Journal of Pediatrics : WJP)

The relationship between the World Index for Sustainability and Health (WISH) score and mental health in women: A cross-sectional study
The objective of this cross-sectional study was to explore the relationship between a newly developed dietary index for health and sustainability, and psychological disorders among Iranian women. Participants in this cross-sectional study included 479 women living in Tehran with no history of chronic disease. A validated 168-item food frequency questionnaire was used to assess dietary intake. The World Index for Sustainability and Health (WISH) was calculated, consisting of four sub-scores: less healthy, healthy, low environmental impact, and high environmental impact. Participants psychological status was assessed using t...
