HIV screening in patients with anal condylomatosis. An overview about ethical and legal issues
Ann Ital Chir. 2021 Oct 21;10:S0003469X21037325. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlthough there is a strong evidence of prevalence of condylomata in the HIV-positive population, literature on HIV prevalence in HIV-unscreened population diagnosed with condylomata is still unconclusive. Our aim is to review literature about HIV screening and diagnosis of anal condylomata in order to evaluate medical aspects, ethical and legal issues concerning the management of this disease. We undertook an online search on Pubmed for the keywords "HIV", "screening" and "anal condylomata" and 23 papers were analys...

Analysis of the MLH1, MLH2, MLH6, PMS2 genes and their correlations with clinical data in rectal mucinous adenocarcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: Our study showed no statistical difference regarding the survival on different gene expression or staging, consistent with studies that found that mucin expression does not have a significant impact on local recurrence, nor does it affect nodal down staging.KEY WORDS: Mucinous adenocarcinoma, Microsatelites instability.PMID:34807001 (Source: Annali Italiani di Chirurgia)

A case of post-traumatic pseudoaneurysm of the hepatic artery treated with endovascular embolization and review of the literature
We report a case of post-traumatic liver pseudoaneurysm treated with endovascular embolization. An 80-year-old man developed pseudoaneurysm of the S6 branch of the hepatic artery, 14 days after a motorcycle accident.RESULTS: The patient was treated with radiological embolization of the pseudoaneurysm, which completely disappeared. After the intervention, the patient developed acute anemia and leukocytosis. At discharge, the white blood cell count was normal, as well as hemoglobin and bilirubin concentrations.DISCUSSION: Treatment options include endovascular embolization, ultrasound-guided thrombin injection, placement of ...

Preoperatory imaging evaluation in primary hyperparathyroidism and associated thyroid disease
Ann Ital Chir. 2021;92:471-478.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT) is an endocrinological disorder characterized by excessive secretion of parathormone. Minimally invasive approach has become a widespread surgical method for pHPT treatment due to the improvement of preoperative gland localization imaging techniques and the use of intraoperative PTH dosage (IOPTH). We discuss the results of different imaging technique.MATERIALS AND METHODS: We have conducted a retrospective analysis of 80 patients that underwent surgery for primary hyperparathyroidism in the period between 01/01/2012 and 28/02/2018 and we...

Invasive lobular carcinoma of the breast: clinicopathological features and patient outcomes
CONCLUSIONS: Despite the good prognostic characteristics and good response to treatment, several studies have reported that ILC is associated with poor long-term outcomes. Therefore, the identification of patients with poor prognostic variants should aid in the implementation of efficient and personalized treatment options.KEY WORDS: Breast cancer, Invasive cancer, Invasive lobuler carcinoma, Prognosis, Variants of lobuler carcinoma.PMID:34795114 (...
