Sex-specific impulsivity, but not other facets of executive functioning, predicts fat and sugar intake two-years later amongst adolescents with a healthy weight: Findings from the ABCD study
Appetite. 2023 Oct 13:107081. doi: 10.1016/j.appet.2023.107081. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDuring adolescence processes that control food intake (executive functions [EF]) undergo extensive refinement; underlying differences in EF may explain the inability to resist overeating unhealthy foods. Yet, overeating fat and sugar also causes changes to EF and cognition but disentangling these relationships has been difficult, as previous studies included youth with obesity. Here, amongst youth initially of a healthy weight, we evaluate whether 1) sex-specific underlying variation in EF/cognition at 9/10-years-old predict fat/s...

Comparing meat and meat alternatives: an analysis of nutrient quality in five European countries
CONCLUSIONS: Meat substitutes, both vegan and non-vegan, are rated as ultra-processed foods. However, compared with RM products, they and also poultry products both can provide a diet that contains fewer nutrients-to-limit, like salt and saturated fats.PMID:37800339 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980023001945 (Source: Public Health Nutrition)

Are U.S. food and beverage companies now advertising healthy products to children on television? An evaluation of improvements in industry self-regulation, 2017-2021
CONCLUSION: Despite revised nutrition standards and improvements in nutrient content of some product categories, participating companies continued to primarily advertise nutritionally poor food and beverages on children's TV. CFBAI companies have not delivered on their promises to advertise healthier products to children.PMID:37789328 | PMC:PMC10548587 | DOI:10.1186/s12966-023-01517-y (Source: Health Physics)

Dietary fats and serum lipids in relation to the risk of ovarian cancer: a meta-analysis of observational studies
In this study, a systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to assess the key dietary fats and serum lipids that increased the risk of ovarian cancer. Databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, and EMBASE were searched for observational studies. A total of 41 studies met the inclusion criteria, including 18 cohort and 23 case-control studies (109,507 patients with ovarian cancer and 2,558,182 control/non-ovarian cancer participants). Higher dietary intakes of total fat (RR = 1.19, 95% CI = 1.06-1.33, I2 = 60.3%), cholesterol (RR = 1.14, 95% CI = 1.03-1.26, I2 = 19.4%), saturated fat (RR = 1.13, 95% CI = 1.04-1.22, I...

Saturated fat, the estimated absolute risk and certainty of risk for mortality and major cancer and cardiometabolic outcomes: an overview of systematic reviews
ConclusionSystematic reviews investigating the impact of SFA on mortality and major cancer and cardiometabolic outcomes almost universally suggest very small absolute changes in risk, and the data is based primarily on low and very low certainty evidence.Systematic review registrationPROSPERO CRD42020172141 (Source: Systematic Reviews)

Effect of the Association of Fixed Oils from < em > Abelmoschus esculentus < /em > (L.) Moench, < em > Euterpe oleracea < /em > Martius, < em > Bixa orellana < /em > Linn é and Chronic SM < sup > ® < /sup > on Atherogenic Dyslipidemia in Wistar Rats
This study investigated the effects of treatments with oils from A. esculentus, E. oleracea, B. orellana, and Chronic SM® on Cocos nucifera L. saturated-fat-induced dyslipidemia. The chromatographic profile showed the majority presence of unsaturated fatty acids in the tested oils. The quantification of tocotrienols and geranylgeraniol in OFBO and CHR was obtained. Treatments with OFEO, OFAE, OFBO, and CHR were able to significantly reduce glycemia, as well as hypertriglyceridemia, total cholesterol, and LDL-cholesterol, besides increasing HDL-cholesterol. The treatments inhibited the formation of atheromatous plaques in ...

Dairy product consumption and lung cancer risk: A prospective analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest an inverse association of lung cancer risk with fermented dairy intake and a positive association with the whole milk preference in a US population.
