Chronic high-sugar diet in adulthood protects Caenorhabditis elegans from 6-OHDA-induced dopaminergic neurodegeneration
Diets high in saturated fat and sugar, termed “Western diets,” have been associated with several negative health outcomes, including increased risk for neurodegenerative disease. Parkinson’s disease (PD) is th... (Source: BMC Biology)

Hypothetical impact of the Mexican front-of-pack labeling on intake of critical nutrients and energy
CONCLUSIONS: FOPWL could be an effective strategy to decrease energy consumption and nutrients of concern. If consumers use the FOPWL, it would be an important change in critical nutrients intake. These results support that FOPWL might help the Mexican population to choose healthier nutrition alternatives.PMID:37941048 | DOI:10.1186/s41043-023-00462-7 (Source: Journal of Health, Population, and Nutrition)

Lack of change in blood pressure and arterial stiffness after high dairy intake in hyperinsulinemic subjects: a cross-over randomized controlled trial
Applied Physiology, Nutrition, and Metabolism, Ahead of Print. To evaluate the effects of high dairy (HD) ( ≥4 servings/day), compared to adequate dairy (AD) (2–3 servings/day as per Canada's Food Guide for Healthy Eating (2007)), on blood pressure (BP) and measures of arterial stiffness in hyperinsulinemic subjects. In this cross-over clinical trial, hyperinsulinemic adults were randomized to AD and HD for 6 weeks. Anthropometric, glycemic, and lipid parameters were analyzed and dietary intake was evaluated; BP, carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity, augmentation index, and measures of arterial stiffness were assessed. ...

Ultra-processing markers are more prevalent in plant-based meat products as compared to their meat-based counterparts in a German food market analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Ultra-processing markers are significantly more prevalent in PBMP as compared to MBP. Since UPF intake has been convincingly linked to metabolic and cardiovascular disease, substituting MBP with PBMP might have negative net health effects.PMID:37927126 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980023002458 (Source: Public Health Nutrition)

Production of snack bar enriched with paraprobiotics grown in banana peel medium, nutritional, sensory and quality parameters
CONCLUSION: bars with and without paraprobiotics are in the category of "protein added, protein source, or protein-containing", "high fiber", "low sodium" products.PMID:37929826 | DOI:10.20960/nh.04785 (Source: Nutricion Hospitalaria)
