Time-restricted feeding in dark phase of circadian cycle and/or westernized diet cause mixed hyperlipidemia in rats.
nto E Abstract BACKGROUND: the dietary pattern that characterizes western diet is strongly associated with metabolic diseases and excess weight, as well as chronic illnesses. Misaligned feeding schedules can lead to or aggravate the development of such conditions. AIM: this study evaluated the influence of dietary composition and/or time-restricted feeding on the anthropometric and biochemical profile of adult rats. METHODS: forty male rats, at 60 days of life, were divided into the following groups: Control (C), Restricted Control (RC), Westernized (W), and Restricted Westernized (RW). RESULTS: wes...

Body composition by bioelectrical impedance, muscle strength, and nutritional risk in oropharyngeal dysphagia patients.
CONCLUSION: nutritional risk was present in 79.9 % of the study population. BIVA allows to evaluate the integrity of muscle mass and tissue hydration, both related to phase angle. A lower phase angle and HGS were observed in the exclusive tube feeding group. These factors are considered important for prognosis. Abstract OBJECTIVE: to analyze the impact of front-of-pack warning labeling (FOP-L) on food purchase patterns in Chilean families with children under 14 years of age after the implementation of the law on nutritional labeling in Chile. METHODS: a cross-sectional study in 468 parents/tutors from 11 educational establishments in Santiago. The questionnaire investigated FOP-L perception, food purchase patterns, and the influence of children on the selection of foods purchased by the family. RESULTS: mostly mothers are responsible for household food purchases (62 %). Parents with a higher schooling level had...

Physical activity recommendations during the COVID-19 pandemic: a practical approach for different target groups.
e;a Taibo O Abstract Ensuring health and well-being during this pandemic is essential according to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Physical exercise has an important role in the preservation of the immune system, which is vital to prevent infections. To promote physical exercise and maintain a healthy status, recent studies have suggested general exercise routines to be implemented during the quarantine period. However, to improve the health-related physical fitness components, any specific prescription should include intensity, volume, duration, and mode. Controversy persists about which is the ...

[Nutri-Score and ultra-processing: two different, complementary, non-contradictory dimensions].
e;n P Abstract The front-of-pack nutritional labeling system Nutri-Score is sometimes under attack because it classifies as A and B certain ultra-processed foods. In fact, this is not surprising given that nutritional quality (assessed by Nutri-Score) and ultra-processing (assessed by the NOVA classification) do not cover the same "health dimensions" in foods but rather different dimensions likely to affect health through specific mechanisms. Although they cover different and complementary dimensions, there is nevertheless an overall association between the degree of processing and nutritional quality of...

Acute effect of a maximum incremental test until exhaustion on malondialdehyde and antioxidant vitamins in plasma and erythrocytes in athletes.
CONCLUSIONS: a maximum incremental test did not produce any changes in plasma vitamins in athletes. However, it increased the levels of vitamin C in erythrocytes and decreased malondialdehyde values in plasma and vitamin E in erythrocytes. The levels of malondialdehyde, vitamin C and vitamin E were related to performance parameters. These results may be linked to the adaptation of antioxidant systems due to regular training. [Ultra-processed food consumption and obesity-a systematic review].
acute;nez A Abstract A number of studies suggest a relationship between the intake of ultra-processed foods and the prevalence of obesity. Specifically, this type of food provides large amounts of free sugars and saturated fats, which contribute to a high energy intake. In the last few decades the consumption of these products has increased to the point of representing an important amount of calories in the daily diet of several populations. As a result, foods that are usually consumed in healthy eating patterns, containing fiber, complex carbohydrates, and good fats, have been displaced. This systematic review ai...

Relationship between vitamin D deficiency and both gestational and postpartum depression.
CONCLUSIONS: in this systematic review, eight articles were analyzed comprising 8,583 women from seven different countries. Among the selected articles, six found an association between VDD and gestational and postpartum depression. Considering the data collection, it was possible to conclude that there is a probable relationship between VDD and a higher predisposition to gestational and postpartum depression. Also, we concluded that vitamin D supplementation has proven to be a promising strategy for reducing the risk of depressive symptoms.
