Differential association between dairy intake patterns and incident prostate cancer: a potential dairy matrix effect
ConclusionsA differential association of dairy intake patterns with risk of PC, and the poorly differentiated PC, was identified. This association seems to be determined by different dairy matrices and it is mediated by calcium content. Longitudinal studies are needed to confirm these findings and be able to identify other potential mediators in the etiology of PC. (Source: European Journal of Nutrition)

Changes in dietary habits and BMI < em > z < /em > -score after a 6-month non-randomized cluster-controlled trial among 6-12 years old overweight and obese Norwegian children
CONCLUSIONS: The intervention had a beneficial impact on nutrient intake and weight status among children with overweight/obesity. These findings provide support for implementing complex intervention programs tailored to local primary care settings.TRIAL REGISTRATION: Clinicaltrials.gov, NCT02290171. Registered 13. Nutrient profile of packaged foods according to the degree of processing
This study aims to characterise the nutrient profile of white-label pre-packaged foods and bakery products available in a market leader Portuguese food retail chain, according to the extent of processing proposed by NOVA classification system. The nutrient profile (energy, sugar, total fat, saturated fat and sodium) according to processing degree was analysed using non-parametric tests. UPF were the most energy dense (278 kcal/100 g, p < .001) and the highest in sugar (15.9 g/100 g, p < .001). Processed foods were the highest in sodium (538 mg/100 g, p < .001). Processed and UPF showed significantly higher total (...

Eating Habits of People with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Portugal: A Cross-Sectional Study
CONCLUSION: The majority of our sample did not take advantage of the potential benefits of healthy eating habits. The main food groups whose consumption should be emphasized or discouraged were individualized, particularly the need to encourage the consumption of high-fiber foods. Targeted educational actions must focus especially on younger and/or male patients.PMID:38183233 | DOI:10.20344/amp.19738 (Source: Acta Medica Portuguesa)

Ultra-processed foods consumption among a US representative sample of middle-older adults: a cross-sectional analysis
Br J Nutr. 2024 Jan 4:1-28. doi: 10.1017/S0007114523003033. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe study evaluated the association between ultra-processed foods (UPFs) and nutrient intake and identified the sociodemographic characteristics associated with UPF consumption among a nationally representative sample of middle-older adults. Dietary assessment was collected in 2013 using a validated food frequency questionnaire. The Nova system was used to classify food and drinks into UPFs. The percentage of dietary energy from UPFs was calculated and used throughout the analyses, and average nutrient intake across quintiles of UPFs ...
