Comparative transcriptome and tissue-specific expression analysis of genes reveal tissue-cultured plants as an alternative source for phenylethanoids and phenylpropanoids in Rhodiola imbricata (Edgew.)
Gene. 2022 Jun 14:146672. doi: 10.1016/j.gene.2022.146672. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRhodiola imbricata (Crassulaceae) is a traditional trans-Himalayan endangered medicinal herb with immense therapeutic applications. Over the years, over-exploitation, un-managed harvesting, and lack of captive cultivation procedures led to the huge market gap. Therefore, plant tissue culture and RNA-Seq-based molecular bioprospection of key regulatory genes will aid the understanding of molecular dynamics involved in specialized metabolites (phenylethanoids and phenylpropanoids) biosynthesis and its sustainable production. Hence, compa...

CONCLUSIONS: RRPs helped to promote haematopoietic recovery in mice with aplastic anaemia, facilitating haematopoietic tissue recovery. This study indicated some mechanisms of the haematopoietic regulatory effects of RRPs. Our findings provide a laboratory basis for clinical research on RRPs.PMID:35695011 | PMC:PMC9196840 | DOI:10.1080/13880209.2022.2083187 (Source: Pharmaceutical Biology)

Salidroside attenuates myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury via AMPK-induced suppression of endoplasmic reticulum stress and mitochondrial fission
In this study, we established a myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) rat model. Rat hearts exposed to Sal with or without compound C were then subjected to I/R. Further, H9c2 cardiomyocytes were subjected to simulated ischemia/reperfusion (SIR) by hypoxia-reoxygenation. The rats and cardiomyocytes were pretreated with Sal, followed by Compound C and AMPK-siRNA to block AMPK activity. We found that Sal significantly ameliorated cardiac function, mitigated infarct size and serum content of lactate dehydrogenase and creatine kinase, improved mitochondrial function, and reduced mitochondrial fission and apoptosis. Furthermore...

Salidroside attenuates high altitude hypobaric hypoxia-induced brain injury in mice via inhibiting NF- κB/NLRP3 pathway
Eur J Pharmacol. 2022 May 10:175015. doi: 10.1016/j.ejphar.2022.175015. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSalidroside (Sal), an active ingredient from Rhodiola crenulate, has been reported to exert neuroprotection in cerebral injury from hypobaric hypoxia (HH) at high altitude. However, it remains to be understood whether its protective effects are related to inflammation suppression. In the present work, we aimed to reveal the mechanism of Sal attenuating HH-induced brain injury in mice caused by an animal hypobaric and hypoxic chamber. Our results provided that Sal could attenuate HH-evoked pathological injury and oxidative ...

Salidroside Ameliorates Ischemia-Induced Neuronal Injury through AMPK Dependent and Independent Pathways to Maintain Mitochondrial Quality Control
In this study, we employed a mouse middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) and cellular oxygen and glucose deprivation (OGD) models to test the hypothesis that salidroside may restore mitochondrial quality control in neurons by modulating the relevant signaling. The results indicated that salidroside mitigated almost 40% the ischemia-induced brain infarct volumes in mice and the OGD-decreased viability of neurons to ameliorate the mitochondrial functions. Furthermore, salidroside treatment alleviated the OGD- or ischemia-induced imbalance of mitochondrial fission and fusion, mitophagy and promoted mitochondrial biogenesis ...
