Uncovering novel drug targets for bipolar disorder: a Mendelian randomization analysis of brain, cerebrospinal fluid, and plasma proteomes
CONCLUSIONS: Our study identified druggable proteins for BD, including MCTP1, DNM3, and PDF in the brain; CTSF, AGRP, and FRZB in cerebrospinal fluid; and LMAN2L, NCAM1, and TIMP4 in plasma, delineating promising avenues to development of novel therapies.PMID:38720515 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291724001077 (Source: Psychological Medicine)

Different contractility modes control cell escape from multicellular spheroids and tumor explants
APL Bioeng. 2024 May 7;8(2):026110. doi: 10.1063/5.0188186. eCollection 2024 Jun.ABSTRACTCells can adapt their active contractile properties to switch between dynamical migratory states and static homeostasis. Collective tissue surface tension, generated among others by the cortical contractility of single cells, can keep cell clusters compact, while a more bipolar, anisotropic contractility is predominantly used by mesenchymal cells to pull themselves into the extracellular matrix (ECM). Here, we investigate how these two contractility modes relate to cancer cell escape into the ECM. We compare multicellular spheroids fro...

Paper-in-Tip Bipolar Electrospray Mass Spectrometry for Real-Time Chemical Reaction Monitoring
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2024 May 8:e202318169. doi: 10.1002/anie.202318169. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCapturing short-lived intermediates at the molecular level is key to understanding the mechanism and dynamics of chemical reactions. Here, we have developed a paper-in-tip bipolar electrolytic electrospray mass spectrometry platform, in which a piece of triangular conductive paper incorporated into a plastic pipette tip serves not only as an electrospray emitter but also as a bipolar electrode (BPE), thus triggering both electrospray and electrolysis simultaneously upon application of a high voltage. The bipolar electr...

Bipolar conjugated microporous polymer anchoring graphene hybrids for high-performance zinc –organic batteries
J. Mater. Chem. A, 2024, Advance Article DOI: 10.1039/D4TA01952K, PaperChengmin Hu, Yumin Chen, Ziyang Song, Ling Miao, Hui Duan, Yaokang Lv, Li Xie, Mingxian Liu, Lihua Gan A superior molecular design allows a bipolar conjugated microporous polymer to be firmly anchored on the rGO surface. The unique anchoring structure realizes alternate Zn2+/CF3SO3− ion storage while providing high capacity and an ultra-long lifespan for zinc –organic batteries. The association of blood biomarkers with cerebral white matter and myelin content in bipolar disorder: a systematic review
CONCLUSION: This systematic review revealed that blood-based biomarkers are associated with markers of WM deficits observed in BD. Longitudinal studies investigating the potential clinical utility of these specific biomarkers are encouraged.PMID:38712923 | DOI:10.47626/1516-4446-2023-3267 (Source: Revista Brasileira de Psiquiatria)

Collaborative care approaches for people with severe mental illness
CONCLUSIONS: This review does not provide evidence to indicate that collaborative care is more effective than standard care in the medium term (at 12 months) in relation to our primary outcomes (quality of life, mental state and psychiatric admissions). The evidence would be improved by better reporting, higher-quality RCTs and the assessment of underlying mechanisms of collaborative care. We advise caution in utilising the information in this review to assess the effectiveness of collaborative care.PMID:38712709 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD009531.pub3 (Source: Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews)

Exploring the Link Between Sensory Processing and Psychopathology in a Community Sample of Young Adults: Bayesian Network Analyses
This study investigated the associations between sensory processing and psychopathology in a sample of the general population. Participants responded to a ge neral psychiatric screening tool (DSM-5 Self-Rated Level 1 Cross-Cutting Symptom Measure-Adult) and to the Adolescent/Adult Sensory Profile (AASP) questionnaire. The sample comprised 1108 young adults (77.25% females, mean age 22.6). Data were analysed using item response theory and Bayesian network analyses, revealing specific associations between sensory profiles and psychopathological dimensions. Specifically, we detected associations between the low registrat...

Seroprevalence and sociodemographic characteristics of Toxoplasma gondii infection in patients with psychiatric disorders in Malaysia
This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of T. gondii infection in psychiatric disorder patients. We also investigated the potential association between sociodemographic, clinical manifestation, and behaviour of Toxoplasma-seropositive patients with psychiatric disorders. Commercial ELISAs (IgG, IgM, and IgG avidity) using serum and PCR using buffy coat were performed on samples from 54 individuals in each of the following groups: patients diagnosed with depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia, as well as psychiatrically healthy subjects (control group). They were recruited from the Hospital Universi...
