Psychotropic Medication Prescriptions for Home-Based Palliative Care Oncology Patients
Conclusion: In palliative home care, psychotropic medications are frequently prescribed by palliative doctors primarily for symptom management, with limited psychiatric consultations and challenges in accessing psychological evaluations. Collaborative efforts among regional or institutional medical bodies, including psychiatrists, psychologists, palliative doctors, and social workers, are needed to establish ethical guidelines for appropriate and effective psychotropic prescription.Prim Care Companion CNS Disord 2024;26(2):23m03668.Author affiliations are listed at the end of this article.PMID:38728674 | DOI:10.4088/PCC.23...

Investigational applications of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) in Mood Disorders: Studies from a tertiary care center in India
Asian J Psychiatr. 2024 Apr 24;97:104054. doi: 10.1016/j.ajp.2024.104054. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe investigational potential of TMS in psychiatry is largely underutilized. In the current article, we present the results of five studies with similar TMS protocols that looked at the investigative applications of TMS via measuring cortical reactivity as potential biomarkers in mood disorders. The first two studies, evaluate potential of TMS parameters and Motor neuron system (MNS) as state or trait markers of BD. Third and fourth studies evaluate these as endophenotypic markers of BD. The fifth study which is an RCT e...

Uncovering novel drug targets for bipolar disorder: a Mendelian randomization analysis of brain, cerebrospinal fluid, and plasma proteomes
CONCLUSIONS: Our study identified druggable proteins for BD, including MCTP1, DNM3, and PDF in the brain; CTSF, AGRP, and FRZB in cerebrospinal fluid; and LMAN2L, NCAM1, and TIMP4 in plasma, delineating promising avenues to development of novel therapies.PMID:38720515 | DOI:10.1017/S0033291724001077 (Source: Psychological Medicine)

Different contractility modes control cell escape from multicellular spheroids and tumor explants
APL Bioeng. 2024 May 7;8(2):026110. doi: 10.1063/5.0188186. eCollection 2024 Jun.ABSTRACTCells can adapt their active contractile properties to switch between dynamical migratory states and static homeostasis. Collective tissue surface tension, generated among others by the cortical contractility of single cells, can keep cell clusters compact, while a more bipolar, anisotropic contractility is predominantly used by mesenchymal cells to pull themselves into the extracellular matrix (ECM). Here, we investigate how these two contractility modes relate to cancer cell escape into the ECM. We compare multicellular spheroids fro...
