Potential of curcumin and niacin-loaded targeted chitosan coated liposomes to activate autophagy in hepatocellular carcinoma cells: An in vitro evaluation in HePG2 cell line
The objective of this study is to activate autophagy in hepatocellular carcinoma for the enhancement of its cellular degradation. Liposomes incorporated chitosan in the core used to improve the stability of lecithin and increase the niacin loading efficiency. Additionally, curcumin as a hydrophobic molecule entrapped into liposomal layers and used as a face layer to minimize the release of niacin in physiological pH 7.2. Folic acid-conjugated chitosan was used to facilitate the delivery of liposomes into a specific location of cancer cells. TEM, UV Visible spectrophotometer, and FTIR confirmed the successful liposomal form...

Engineered dry powders for the nose-to-brain delivery of transforming growth factor-beta
Eur J Pharm Biopharm. 2023 Jun 24:S0939-6411(23)00168-6. doi: 10.1016/j.ejpb.2023.06.015. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNose-to-brain delivery is increasing in popularity as an alternative to other invasive delivery routes. However, targeting the drugs and bypassing the central nervous system are challenging. We aim to develop dry powders composed of nanoparticles-in-microparticles for high efficiency of nose-to-brain delivery. The size of microparticles (between 250 and 350 µm), is desired for reaching the olfactory area, located below the nose-to-brain barrier. Moreover, nanoparticles with a diameter between 150 and 200...

Metabolomic analysis of lipid changes in Bombyx mori infected with Nosema bombycis
In this study, ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) was performed to analyze the effect of Nb infection on lipid metabolism in the midgut of silkworms. A total of 1601 individual lipid molecules were detected in the midgut of silkworms, of which 15 were significantly decreased after Nb challenge. Classification, chain length, and chain saturation analysis revealed that these 15 differential lipids can be classified into different lipid subclasses, of which 13 belong to glycerol phospholipid lipids and two belong to glyceride esters. The results indicated that Nb uses the host ...

Lecithin/chitosan nanoparticle drug carrier improves anti-tumor efficacy of Monascus pigment rubropunctatin
Int J Biol Macromol. 2023 May 24:125058. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2023.125058. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRubropunctatin, a metabolite isolated from the fungi of the genus Monascus, is a natural lead compound applied for the suppression of tumors with good anti-cancer activity. However, its poor aqueous solubility has limited its further clinical development and utilization. Lecithin and chitosan are excellently biocompatible and biodegradable natural materials, which have been approved by the FDA as drug carrier. Here, we report for the first time the construction of a lecithin/chitosan nanoparticle drug carrier of the ...

Antimicrobial activity of α-mangostin against Staphylococcus species from companion animals in vitro and therapeutic potential of α-mangostin in skin diseases caused by S. pseudintermedius
This study investigated the antimicrobial activity of α-MG against clinical isolates of Staphylococcus species from companion animals and assessed the therapeutic potential of α-MG in skin diseases induced by S. pseudintermedius in a murine model. Furthermore, the action mechanisms of α-MG against S. pseudintermedius were investigated. α-MG exhibited antimicrobial activity against clinical isolates of five different Staphylococcus species from skin diseases of companion animals in vitro, but not G (-) bacteria. α-MG specifically interacted with the major histocompatibility complex II analogous protein (MAP) domain-con...

Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 3929: Interactions between Layered Double Hydroxide Nanoparticles and Egg Yolk Lecithin Liposome Membranes
Na Du The burgeoning need to study the applications of nanoparticles (NPs) in biomedical and pharmaceutical fields requires an understanding of their interactions with lipid membranes for further in vivo studies. In this paper, negatively charged egg yolk lecithin liposome (EYL) has been prepared and used as model lipid membranes. Positively charged Mg3Al-layered double hydroxides (LDHs) are viewed as models of clay particles. The ability of the LDH NPs, a two-dimensional nanostructure with an average diameter of 100 nm (LDHs-100) or 500 nm (LDHs-500) to cross the membranes, has been thoroughly investigated via (high-r...

Preparation of liposomal hydrogel containing Calendula and application as a wound dressing
Cell Mol Biol (Noisy-le-grand). 2022 Nov 30;68(11):1-7. doi: 10.14715/cmb/2022.68.11.1.ABSTRACTBurn wound is one of the major medical and Hydrogels are one of the best wound dressings for burns. Herein, chitosan/Aloe vera hydrogel was prepared and cross-linked by genipin. The nano-liposomes of soy lecithin as a phospholipid containing calendula were added to the hydrogel. The surface morphology and functional groups were evaluated by SEM and FTIR methods, respectively. The average hydrodynamic diameter was calculated by the dynamic light scattering. Also, the nanoliposomes hydrogel containing calendula has a suitable swell...
