Association between different soy lecithin-based extenders and freezing rates in ram semen cryopreservation
In conclusion, the combination EY-20% and - 60 °C/min, showed the best cryoprotective effects on ram spermatozoa. Changes in spermatozoa after thawing were related to the use of the type of extender, the amounts of the same compound in the extender, and the freezing rates to which they were subjected.PMID:37105047 | DOI:10.1016/j.anireprosci.2023.107234 (Source: Animal Reproduction Science)

Nanoemulsion carriers for drug delivery: Assessment of environmental hazards
Environ Pollut. 2023 Apr 18:121669. doi: 10.1016/j.envpol.2023.121669. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTNanoemulsions (NEs) have been extensively studied as carriers for drug delivery, since these provide a good alternative to the existing non-nano systems, while promoting their target delivery and controlled release. NEs are considered safe drug carriers from a pre-clinical perspective, but there is currently no information on their ecotoxicological effects. In the present study we investigated the toxicity of a NE material (lecithin, sunflower oil, borate buffer) designed to be used as a liposomal excipient for eye drops, f...

Preparation and evaluation of radiolabeled gliclazide parenteral nanoemulsion as a new tracer for pancreatic β-cells mass
CONCLUSIONS: The labeled compound was obtained with a high radiochemical yield (99.3 ± 1.1%) and good stability (>48 h). The radiolabeled nanoemulsion showed an average droplet size of 24.7 nm, a polydispersity index of 0.21, a zeta potential of -45.3 mV, pH 7.4, an osmolality of 285.3 mOsm/kg, and viscosity of 1.24 mPa.s, indicating suitability for parenteral administration. In silico assessment suggested that the labeling did not affect the biological activity of gliclazide. The suggestion was further supported by the in vivo blocking study. Following intravenous administration of nanoemulsion, the pancreas uptake wa...

Self ‐Assembly of Selenium‐Doped Carbon Quantum Dots as Antioxidants for Hepatic Ischemia‐Reperfusion Injury Management
Selenium-doped carbon quantum dots (Se-CQDs)  were self-assembled with distearoyl phosphoethanolamine-PEG2000 (DSPE-PEG2000) and lecithin (LEC) or 1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DSPC). The obtained selenium-containing nanoparticles can accumulate in the liver prominently, act as antioxidants to prevent free radicals from destroy ing hepatocytes, and reduce the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines from Kupffer cells, thus exerting an effective therapeutic effect on Hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury. AbstractHepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury (HIRI) is a critical complication after liver surgery that negat...

Role of soy lecithin combined with soy isoflavone on cerebral blood flow in rats of cognitive impairment and the primary screening of its optimum combination
CONCLUSIONS: SIF+SL could significantly prevent cognitive defect induced by β-Amyloid through regulating CBF. This kind of effect might be attributed to its antioxidant activity on protecting cerebral vessels.PMID:37009142 | PMC:PMC10042711 | DOI:10.4162/nrp.2023.17.2.371 (Source: Cell Research)

Structural Changes in Liposomal Vesicles in Association with Sodium Taurodeoxycholate
In this study, we report the effect of sodium taurodeoxycholate (STDC, a bile salt) upon the microstructural characteristics of SL vesicles. Liposomes, prepared by the thin film hydration method, were characterized by dynamic light scattering (DLS), small-angle neutron scattering (SANS), electron microscopy, and rheological techniques. We noticed a reduction in the size of vesicles with the incremental addition of STDC. Initial changes in the size of spherical vesicles were ascribed to the edge-activating action of STDC (0.05 to 0.17 µM). At higher concentrations (0.23 to 0.27 µM), these vesicles transformed into cylindr...

GSE180441 GM-free immortalization and high yield production of cultured chicken [WGS]
Contributors : Yaakov Nahmias ; Boaz Gildor ; Eli Reuveni ; Avner Ehrlich ; Merav Cohen ; Laura PasitkaSeries Type : OtherOrganism : Gallus gallusGlobal demand for animal protein is expected to double by 2050 at a time when resource-intensive livestock production is reaching peak capacity. Cellular agriculture offers an opportunity to meet the increasing demand for animal products, but the technology is currently limited by the genetic stability of immortalized cells, low culture yields, and high production costs. Here we demonstrate the spontaneous immortalization and long-term genetic stability of fibroblasts deriv...
