Implications of frailty in acute ischemic stroke receiving endovascular treatment: systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Pre-stroke frailty is an important predictor of poor prognosis assessed by EVT and can be added to the classical predictors of stroke outcome. Routine assessment of pre-stroke frailty can help patients to make decisions about the efficacy of their choice of EVT.PMID:36964867 | DOI:10.1007/s40520-023-02383-1 (Source: Aging Clinical and Experimental Research)

Risk of lymphoid malignancies increased after Puumala virus infection in Finland, 2009-2019: a retrospective register-based cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: PUUV infection is associated with lymphoid malignancies in the Finnish population, supporting the earlier studies. Further research is required to understand the pathophysiological mechanisms behind this association.PMID:36948450 | DOI:10.1016/j.ijid.2023.03.026 (Source: Cancer Control)

Viruses, Vol. 15, Pages 805: Puumala Hantavirus Infections Show Extensive Variation in Clinical Outcome
i Jukka Mustonen The clinical outcome of Puumala hantavirus (PUUV) infection shows extensive variation, ranging from inapparent subclinical infection (70–80%) to severe hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS), with about 0.1% of cases being fatal. Most hospitalized patients experience acute kidney injury (AKI), histologically known as acute hemorrhagic tubulointerstitial nephritis. Why this variation? There is no evidence that there would be more virulent and less virulent variants infecting humans, although this has not been extensively studied. Individuals with the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) a...

Health progression for Covid-19 survivors hospitalized in geriatric clinics in Sweden
Conclusions and implicationsThe overall health progression of re-hospitalized geriatric Covid-19 survivors did not differ dramatically from other re-hospitalized geriatric patients with similar age, sex and health at baseline. Our results emphasize that Covid-19 was especially detrimental for geriatric patients in the acute-phase, but not in the later phase. Further studies including post-vaccination samples are needed. Association of frailty with healthcare resource utilization after open thoracic/thoracolumbar posterior spinal fusion for adult spinal deformity
ConclusionOur study identified HFRS to be significantly associated with prolonged hospitalizations and non-routine discharge. Other factors that were found to be associated with increased healthcare resource utilization include age, Hispanic race, West hospital region, large hospital size, and increasing number of AEs. Hearing Impairment and Incident Frailty in Later Life: The Health in Men Study (HIMS)
ConclusionsHearing loss is not associated with incident frailty in men aged 70 years or older when frailty was measured by HFRS. However, this statistically non-significant result could be due to the low sensitivity of study measures. Also, we found a trend that men with hearing loss were more likely to develop frailty compared with their normal-hearing peers, suggesting a potential association between hearing loss and frailty. Risk of lymphoid malignancies increased after Puumala virus infection in Finland, 2009-2019: a retrospective register-based cohort study
Puumala virus (PUUV) is a hantavirus causing haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome. Studies showing an increased risk of lymphoid malignancies following hantavirus infection, together with the observation that PUUV infects B cells motivated us to study the risk of lymphoid malignancies following PUUV infection. Pseudotyped Viruses for Orthohantavirus
Adv Exp Med Biol. 2023;1407:229-252. doi: 10.1007/978-981-99-0113-5_12.ABSTRACTOrthohantaviruses, members of the Orthohantavirus genus of Hantaviridae family of the Bunyavirales order, are enveloped, negative-sense, single-stranded, tripartite RNA viruses. They are emerging zoonotic pathogens carried by small mammals including rodents, moles, shrews, and bats and are the etiologic agents of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) and hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome (HCPS) among humans. With the characteristics of low biological risk but strong operability, a variety of pseudotyped viruses have been constructed as ...

Development and validation of a combined hypoxia and ferroptosis prognostic signature for breast cancer
ConclusionWe developed a novel prognostic model with hypoxia and ferroptosis-related genes to predict OS, and characterize the immune microenvironment of BC patients, which might provide new cures for clinical decision-making and individual treatment of BC patients. (Source: Frontiers in Oncology)

Transcriptomic and metabolomic insights into the defense response to HFRs in Arabidopsis
In this study, when Arabidopsis was exposed to four HFRs (TBBPA, TCBPA, TBBPS-MDHP, TBBPS), the stress of these compounds had different inhibitory effects on seed germination and plant growth. Transcriptome and metabolome analysis showed that all four HFRs could influence the expression of transmembrane transporters to affect ion transport, Phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, Plant-pathogen interaction, MAPK signalling pathway and other pathways. In addition, the effects of different kinds of HFR on plants also have variant characteristics. It is very fascinating that Arabidopsis shows the response of biotic stress after exposur...
