Viruses, Vol. 15, Pages 561: Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome in Asia: History, Pathogenesis, Diagnosis, Treatment, and Prevention
we Yuriy Davidyuk Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HFRS) is the most frequently diagnosed zoonosis in Asia. This zoonotic infection is the result of exposure to the virus-contaminated aerosols. Orthohantavirus infection may cause Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome (HRFS), a disease that is characterized by acute kidney injury and increased vascular permeability. Several species of orthohantaviruses were identified as causing infection, where Hantaan, Puumala, and Seoul viruses are most common. Orthohantaviruses are endemic to several Asian countries, such as China, South Korea, and Japan. Along with those co...

IJERPH, Vol. 20, Pages 3328: Urbanization-Related Environmental Factors and Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome: A Review Based on Studies Taken in China
Liang Lu Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) is a rodent-borne disease that has threatened Chinese residents for nearly a century. Although comprehensive prevent and control measures were taken, the HFRS epidemic in China presents a rebounding trend in some areas. Urbanization is considered as an important influencing factor for the HFRS epidemic in recent years; however, the relevant research has not been systematically summarized. This review aims to summarize urbanization-related environmental factors and the HFRS epidemic in China and provide an overview of research perspectives. The literature review w...

Higher Hospital Frailty Risk Score is associated with increased complications and healthcare resource utilization after endovascular treatment of ruptured intracranial aneurysms
Conclusions Our study found that greater frailty as defined by the HFRS was associated with increased complications, LOS, total costs, and non-routine discharge. (Source: Journal of NeuroInterventional Surgery)

Correspondence on "Higher hospital frailty risk score is associated with increased complications and healthcare resource utilization after endovascular treatment of ruptured intracranial aneurysms" by Koo et al
We read with great interest the recently published article by Koo et al.1 This retrospective cohort study used the Hospital Frailty Risk Score (HFRS) to measure ‘frailty’ and its association with complication rates and healthcare resource utilization in patients who underwent endovascular treatment of ruptured intracranial aneurysms. Koo et al used ICD-10-CM codes to identify patients, who were then categorized into frailty groups: low (HFRS <5), intermediate (HFRS 5–15), and high (HFRS >15). The study concluded that greater frailty, as defined by the HFRS, was associated with increased postoperativ...

Response to letter to the Editor on 'Utility of the Hospital Frailty Risk Score in patients undergoing endovascular treatment for ruptured aneurysms
We greatly appreciate the letter by Estes et al1 sent in regard to our published work "Higher Hospital Frailty Risk Score (HFRS) is associated with increased complications and healthcare resource utilization after endovascular treatment of ruptured intracranial aneurysms."2 In that study, we sought to assess the potential use of HFRS in identifying the ‘frailty risk’ of patients with ruptured aneurysms undergoing endovascular treatment, leveraging the use of ICD-10-CM coding that is available within the National Inpatient Sample. The authors have raised a few concerns, including the lack of temporality in the N...

Association of Frailty Status on the Causes and Outcomes of Patients Admitted With Cardiovascular Disease
Data are limited about the contemporary association between frailty and the causes and outcomes of patients admitted with cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Using the US National Inpatient Sample, CVD admissions of interest (acute myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke, atrial fibrillation (AF), heart failure, pulmonary embolism, cardiac arrest, and hemorrhagic stroke) were stratified by Hospital Frailty Risk Score (HFRS). Logistic regression was used to determine adjusted odds ratios (aORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of in-hospital mortality among different groups with frailty. A comparative analysis of the Hospital Frailty Risk Score in predicting postoperative outcomes among intracranial tumor patients
CONCLUSIONS: The study findings suggest that the HFRS is an effective predictor of postoperative outcomes in intracranial tumor patients and more effectively predicts adverse outcomes than other frailty indices. The HFRS may serve as an important tool for reducing patient morbidity and mortality in intracranial tumor surgery.PMID:36577033 | DOI:10.3171/2022.11.JNS222033 (Source: Journal of Neurosurgery)

Performance of administrative database frailty instruments in predicting clinical outcomes and cost for patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation: a historical cohort study
CONCLUSION: Preoperative frailty assessment may add some predictive value for TAVI outcomes. Use of administrative database frailty instruments may provide small but significant improvements in case-mix adjustment when profiling hospitals for certain outcomes.PMID:36577891 | DOI:10.1007/s12630-022-02354-6 (Source: Canadian Journal of Anaesthesia)
