Spatial Heterogeneity and Influencing Factors of HFRS Epidemics in Rural and Urban Areas: A Study in Guanzhong Plain of Shaanxi Province, China
CONCLUSION: Topography was the primary key factor for HFRS prevalence in the Chang'an District and Hu County, and the spatial differentiation of HFRS was dominated by precipitation and population density in the northern plains. Compared with the influencing factors of the relatively developed Chang'an District, the developing Hu County was more affected by socioeconomic factors. When formulating targeted HFRS epidemic prevention and control strategies in the targeted areas, it is crucial to consider the local economic development state and combine natural environmental factors, including the meteorological environment and ...

Elevated concentrations of halogenated flame retardants in waste childcare articles from Ireland
Environ Pollut. 2022 Nov 22:120732. doi: 10.1016/j.envpol.2022.120732. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTConcentrations of legacy and alternative halogenated flame retardants (HFRs) including chlorinated organophosphate esters (Cl-OPEs), were measured in waste childcare articles (n = 274 for Cl-OPEs, n = 187 for other HFRs) from the Republic of Ireland between 2019 and 2020. Articles studied comprised foams and fabrics from: child car seats, cot mattresses, changing mats, pushchairs, prams, and related items. Fifteen articles (7.7%) exceeded the European Union limit value of 1000 mg/kg for polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs...

Early physical rehabilitation effectiveness in frail older patients hospitalized for community-acquired pneumonia: analysis of a nationwide database in Japan
CONCLUSIONS: Early physical rehabilitation in frail older patients hospitalized for CAP may improve outcomes. This finding highlights the importance of simultaneously introducing the HFRS and early physical rehabilitation intervention into clinical practice for frail older patients with CAP.PMID:36376622 | DOI:10.1007/s40520-022-02302-w (Source: Aging Clinical and Experimental Research)

Hantaan virus-induced elevation of plasma osteoprotegerin and its clinical implications in hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome
Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) has gained widespread attention as a major public health concern (Brocato and Hooper,  2019). China is a severe endemic area where patients with HFRS, especially those infected with the Hantaan virus (HTNV) and Seoul virus, account for 90% of the total global cases (Jiang et al., 2017). Although hantavirus infections do not disrupt the vascular endothelium, the underlying pathogene sis of HFRS is undoubtedly related to increased vascular permeability and pronounced thrombocytopenia (Noack et al. Hantaan virus induced elevation of plasma osteoprotegerin and its clinical implications in hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome
The bleeding tendency is a hallmark of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) after Hantaan virus (HTNV) infection. Growing reports indicated the importance of osteoprotegerin (OPG) in vascular homeostasis, implying OPG may be involved in the pathogenesis of coagulopathy in HFRS patients. Developmental toxicity assessments for TBBPA and its commonly used analogs with a human embryonic stem cell liver differentiation model
Chemosphere. 2022 Oct 19:136924. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2022.136924. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) is widely used in industrial production as a halogenated flame retardant (HFR). Its substitutes and derivatives are also commonly employed as HFRs. Consequently, they can be frequently detected in environmental and human samples. The potential developmental toxicity of TBBPA and its analogs, particularly to the human liver, is still controversial or not thoroughly assessed. Therefore, in this study, we focused on the early stages of human liver development to explore the toxic effects of thos...
