Causal relationships of Helicobacter pylori and related gastrointestinal diseases on Type 2 diabetes: Univariable and Multivariable Mendelian randomization
ConclusionOur study found that H. pylori IgG antibody, H. pylori GroEL antibody, gastroduodenal ulcer and chronic gastritis are all related to t T2DM, and blood glucose level and obesity mediate the development of H. pylori GroEL antibody and gastroduodenal ulcer on T2DM, respectively. These findings may inform new prevention and intervention strategies for T2DM. (Source: PLoS One)

A Prospective Multimodal Education Intervention for Providers Does Not Increase Hepatic Encephalopathy Treatment Rates
ConclusionThis MMEI did not increase HE treatment rates, suggesting that alternative strategies are needed to identify and address barriers to treatment. (Source: Digestive Diseases and Sciences)

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Outcomes and Trainee Perception of Code Status Discussions in Patients with Cirrhosis
ConclusionsWe identified significant trainee uncertainty about outcomes in patients with cirrhosis. These deficits improved after an educational intervention and gave providers more confidence in holding informed code status conversations with patients with cirrhosis, a population that faces barriers to adequate code discussions. Metabolomic Analysis of Human Cirrhosis and Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Pilot Study
ConclusionOur findings give promising insides into the metabolic changes during HCC carcinogenesis and provide candidate biomarkers for future studies. Campesterol and furoylglycine in particular were identified as possible biomarkers for HCC progression. Moreover, eight metabolites were detected as predictors for poor overall survival.Graphical Abstract (Source: Digestive Diseases and Sciences)

Statewide Survey of Primary Care and Subspecialty Providers on Hepatocellular Carcinoma Risk-Stratification and Surveillance Practices
ConclusionsIn this statewide survey, there were great knowledge gaps in HCC surveillance among PCPs and most respondents expressed interest in strategies to increase appropriate HCC surveillance. (Source: Digestive Diseases and Sciences)

Spatial genomics: mapping human steatotic liver disease
Nature Reviews Gastroenterology & Hepatology, Published online: 23 April 2024; doi:10.1038/s41575-024-00915-2This Perspective discusses single-cell and single-nuclei RNA sequencing in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease and explains how our understanding of the pathology of the disease will accelerate following the advances in spatial transcriptomics. Isolated Langerhans cell histiocytosis in the stomach of adults: four-case series and literature review
We examined four cases (one female, three males) of gastric LCH. The affected patients were between 33 and 70 years of age. Endoscopically, three patients presented with a solitary polyp or elevated lesions, whereas one patient showed no abnormalities. Under a microscope, all cases showed abnormal proliferation of histiocytoid cells infiltrating in a nested or sheet-like fashion. The tumor cells were medium-sized, with a slightly eosinophilic cytoplasm, irregular or renal-shaped nuclei, folded nuclear membranes, visible nuclear grooves, and the infiltration of inflammatory cells in the background. Immunohistochemically, al...

Combined effect of pantoprazole and mesenchymal stem cells on experimentally induced gastric ulcer: implication of oxidative stress, inflammation and apoptosis pathways
This study aimed to investigate the possible alleviating effect of a combined treatment of pantoprazole (PANTO) and adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADSCs) in comparison with each treatment alone on the healing process of the experimentally induced GU in rats, and to uncover the involved pathways. Rats were divided into five groups: (1) Control, (2) GU, (3) PANTO, (4) ADSCs and (5) ADSCs  + PANTO. Markers of oxidative stress, inflammation and apoptosis were assessed. The current data indicated that PANTO-, ADSCs- and ADSCs + PANTO-treated groups showed significant drop (p <  0.05) in serum adva...

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1617: Interaction of Colorectal Neoplasm Risk Factors and Association with Metabolic Health Status Focusing on Normal Waist-to-Hip Ratio in Adults
Conclusions: An increase in FRS and HbA1c or a positive H. pylori infection still warrants vigilance for colorectal adenoma risk when WHR is 0.9. These factors interacted with each other and were found to have a minimal decline in adenoma risk when considering the interaction between WHR and FRS. (Source: Cancers)
