Prediction of physicochemical and pharmacokinetic properties of botanical constituents by computational models
This study sought to use computational (i.e., in silico) models, including quantitative structure –activity relationships (QSAR) and physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling, to predict properties of botanical constituents. One hundred and three major constituents (e.g., withanolides, mitragynine, and yohimbine) in 13 botanicals (e.g., ashwagandha, kratom, and yohimbe) were invest igated. The predicted properties included biopharmaceutical classification system (BCS) classes based on aqueous solubility and permeability, oral absorption, liver microsomal clearance, oral bioavailability, and others. Over half ...

The Relationship between Diet, Gut Mycobiome, and Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders: Evidence, Doubts, and Prospects
Dietary ingredients and patterns have the potential to regulate the structure of gut fungi. The relationship between mycobiome and diet may have important implications for the pathogenesis of funcitonal gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs). AbstractGut fungi are important parts of intestinal microbes. Dietary ingredients have the potential to regulate the structure of gut fungi in different directions and modulate mycobiome composition by changing dietary patterns, which have been applied to neurological disorders. Emerging pieces of evidence have revealed the regulatory functions of gut mycobiome in gastrointestinal disease...

A prevalence study on gastrointestinal parasitic infections of pig (Sus scrofa) in and around Meerut, Western Uttar Pradesh, India
AbstractThe present study was conducted to record the prevalence of gastrointestinal parasites of pigs by faecal sample examination. Faecal samples were collected in three different seasons viz; monsoon, post monsoon and pre monsoon, from in and around Meerut district of Western Uttar Pradesh. A total of 642 faecal samples were collected for a period of one year (2020 –21). The overall prevalence rate recorded for gastrointestinal parasites in pigs was 64.4%.The findings of the present work showed that seasons have a significant role on the prevalence of gastrointestinal parasites infection in pigs, with highest prevalen...

Therapeutic Hypothermia Compared with Normothermia in Adults with Traumatic Brain Injury; Functional Outcome, Mortality, and Adverse Effects: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
ConclusionsWith the addition of several recent randomized clinical trials and a thorough quality assessment, we have provided an updated systematic review and meta-analysis that concludes that TH does not show any benefit over normothermia in terms of mortality and functional outcome. Recurrent splanchnic and extrasplanchnic thrombotic events in patients with non-cirrhotic portal vein thrombosis associated with local factors
Lay summaryThis retrospective large serie of recent noncirrhotic portal vein thrombosis associated with local factors highlights that prothrombotic factors with high-risk of thrombosis identified in one-third of cases were highly associated with a risk of new thrombotic events. Recanalization and permanent anticoagulation prevented the risk of rethrombosis. (Source: Journal of Hepatology)

Patients with Celiac Disease Have High Prevalence of Fatty Liver and Metabolic Syndrome
ConclusionsPatients with CeD have a high prevalence of fatty liver and metabolic syndrome which increases further with the initiation of GFD. Patients with CeD should thus be screened and monitored for development of fatty liver and metabolic syndrome. They should be counselled appropriately regarding their diet and inclusion of physical activity in their lifestyle.Graphical Abstract (Source: Digestive Diseases and Sciences)

Coffee, Alcohol, and Artificial Sweeteners Have Temporal Associations with Gastrointestinal Symptoms
ConclusionsCoffee, alcohol, and artificial sweeteners were associated with GI symptoms in this large IBS-predominant sample. Symptom onset is often within 2  h postprandial, but some foods were associated with a delayed response, possibly an important consideration in implementing dietary recommendations. Clinical trials must test the causality of the demonstrated food–symptom associations. (Source: Digestive Diseases and Sciences)
