average RVU
Starting to get some term sheets, can be confusing. MGMA has 7800 RVUs as average for GI, how many patients per day scoping and clinic is that? Do advanced endoscopy make more or have different thresholds/payment model? Looking in the NYC area. Would also be nice to know range of average salary first few years vs after 5-10 years? What is typical pay per RVU in that area and is this typically negotiable? Thanks!! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Practice Structure
First year fellow here. I'm curious how private practice vs academic GI attendings in 2021 set their schedule especially given the pandemic. Specifically, how many patients do they see in a typical clinic day? What's the normal procedure volume they do per day? I can barely reach the cecum consistently in less than 20 minutes, so each colon still takes 45 minutes+ (and that's with the attending taking over more than 50% of the time). I'm interested in seeing the trajectory as well (early vs... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Another WAMC?
I’ll keep it brief and really appreciate any input. - American citizenship - American grad - 8 pubmed indexed publications (mostly case studies, 3 original research in so so journals) 2 first authors, several poster presentations - didn’t rock step 1; 208, 240 on step 2, don’t remember step 3 (does it really matter though?). 80th percentile on ABIM (I know it doesn’t matter, but just to show I can do well on boards). All passed on first attempt. 1 med school class fail, passed on retake... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

URM (latina) 514/3.6 - does this list of schools look good?
Hi! I am a recent grad and submitted AMCAS last week, but am wondering which med schools I should add/remove from my current list? I am Latina and Indian and I am a Spanish speaker. I am also a WA state resident. Thank you! Clinical: I have 400 hours as a patient coordinator for Latinx communities, 150 hours of volunteering at a rural urgent care clinic, and 100 hours of shadowing (ED, gastroenterology, surgery, OB/GYN, primary care). Research: doing a research internship where I will be... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Bad MSPE
Hello, applying this year. Dropped down my rank list due to a bad MSPE, specifically professionalism. Was wondering if there was a way to know which programs require the MSPE and which do not, as I would rather not submit it if I do not have to. Thanks, (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Private Equity in Healthcare
Since it’s been discussed here before, here’s an informative article discussing private equity in healthcare. Betting on ‘Golden Age’ of colonoscopies, private equity invests in gastro docs An aging population in need of regular cancer screenings has driven private equity companies, seeking profits, to invest in many gastroenterology practices and set up aggressive billing practices. www.modernhealthcare.com (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Advanced endoscopy job search
Currently finishing up my GI fellowship starting advanced endoscopy fellowship in July. My ideal job would be primarily advanced and semi academic. I know there are some places that are hospital employed positions, solely or primarily advanced, with some academic focus (teaching and research) Some general advice for job hunting for advanced jobs would be great. Specifically I was wondering 1. When to start looking for jobs 2. How I should go about reaching out to places. Thanks (Source: Student Doctor Network)

OMS1: Wondering about heme/onc fellowship competitiveness/planning for the future.
I was wondering about my chances of matching into heme/onc later. From what I can tell, Heme/Onc is competitive but I don't know where it fits on the scale of other residencies/fellowships. is it like: Gastro>General Surgery>Radiology>Heme/Onc>Anesthesia>IM>Neurology>FM I'm only OMS1 right now though at a NEW DO school. Though, before med school, I was pretty set on research and industry. I wanted to do independent cancer research and my PI encouraged me to do med school. I did research...
