One Year Outcomes Among Children Identified With Celiac Disease Through A Mass Screening Program
Celiac disease (CD) mass screening remains controversial in part because of a paucity of data to support its benefit. The Autoimmunity Screening for Kids (ASK) study is a mass screening study for pediatric CD and type 1 diabetes in Colorado. (Source: Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology)

Factors affecting nonfunctioning small pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms and proposed new treatment strategies
Despite previously reported treatment strategies for nonfunctioning small ( ≤20 mm) pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms (pNENs), uncertainties persist. We aimed to evaluate the surgically resected cases nonfunctioning small pNENs (NF-spNENs) in a large Japanese cohort to elucidate an optimal treatment strategy for NF-spNENs. Long-term variations of urban –Rural disparities in infectious disease burden of over 8.44 million children, adolescents, and youth in China from 2013 to 2021: An observational study
The objective of our study was to evaluate the long-term urban –rural disparities in infectious diseases among children, adolescents, and youths in China, while also examining the specific diseases driving these disparities. Methods and findingsThis observational study examined data on 43 notifiable infectious diseases from 8,442,956 cases from individuals aged 4 to 24 years, with 4,487,043 cases in urban areas and 3,955,913 in rural areas. The data from 2013 to 2021 were obtained from China ’s Notifiable Infectious Disease Surveillance System. The 43 infectious diseases were categorized into 7 categories: vaccine-prev...

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1476: Helicobacter pylori cagA, vacA, iceA and babA Genotypes from Peruvian Patients with Gastric Intestinal Metaplasia
This study was cross-sectional and included 158 H. pylori clinical isolates; each isolate corresponded to a different Peruvian patient, genotyped by polymerase chain reaction to detect cagA gene and EPIYA motifs, the vacA gene (alleles s1, s2, i1, i2, d1, d2, m1, m2 and subtypes s1a, s1b and s1c), the iceA gene (alleles 1 and 2), and the babA gene (allele 2). We observed that 38.6% presented with IM and that all clinical isolates were CagA positive. The EPIYA-ABC motif was predominant (68.4%), and we observed a high frequency for the vacA gene alleles s1 (94.9%), m1 (81.7%), i1 (63.9%), and d1 (70.9%). Strains with both ic...

Progress of PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitor combination therapy in immune treatment for HER2-positive tumors
ConclusionCombinatorial immunotherapeutic strategies involving PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors hold considerable promise in the treatment of HER2-positive tumors. Continued research efforts and clinical trials are warranted to elucidate optimal treatment regimens that maximize therapeutic benefits while minimizing adverse effects. Long-term safety of lanthanum carbonate in the real word: a 19-year disproportionality analysis from the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System
CONCLUSIONS: This study affirms lanthanum carbonate's long-term safety for reducing elevated blood phosphorus levels. While gastrointestinal disorders were common, attention must focus on emerging AEs, particularly stress, especially in elderly patients.PMID:38602862 | DOI:10.1080/14740338.2024.2343014 (Source: Expert Opinion on Drug Safety)

The Effect of Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome on Pravastatin Oral Bioavailability: In vivo and in silico evaluation using bottom-up wbPBPK modeling
AAPS PharmSciTech. 2024 Apr 11;25(4):86. doi: 10.1208/s12249-024-02803-z.ABSTRACTThe common disorders irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) can modify the drugs' pharmacokinetics via their induced pathophysiological changes. This work aimed to investigate the impact of these two diseases on pravastatin oral bioavailability. Rat models for IBS and IBD were used to experimentally test the effects of IBS and IBD on pravastatin pharmacokinetics. Then, the observations made in rats were extrapolated to humans using a mechanistic whole-body physiologically-based pharmacokinetic (wbPBPK) model. The r...

Patient-reported experience with Fabry disease and its management in the real-world setting: results from a double-blind, cross-sectional survey of 280 respondents
CONCLUSIONS: Our analysis highlights the gap between current standard-of-care in disease monitoring and patient perception of disease progression among patients with FD. This information may be helpful for healthcare providers and drug developers seeking to improve the care of patients with FD by addressing unmet needs of high relevance.PMID:38605390 | PMC:PMC11007961 | DOI:10.1186/s13023-024-03090-4 (Source: Pain Physician)

Multi-omic analysis of Esophageal Adenocarcinoma uncovers candidate therapeutic targets and cancer-selective post-transcriptional regulation
CONCLUSIONS: By quantitative proteomic analysis we have identified GPA33 as an EAC-selective biomarker. Integrated analysis of proteome, transcriptome, and genome in EAC has revealed several genes with tumor-selective, post-transcriptional regulation of protein expression which may be an exploitable vulnerability.PMID:38604503 | DOI:10.1016/j.mcpro.2024.100764 (Source: Molecular and Cellular Proteomics : MCP)

Long-term use of etomidate disrupts the intestinal homeostasis and nervous system in mice
This study aimed to investigate the neurotoxic and gastrointestinal effects of ETO at doses of 1 mg/kg and 3 mg/kg in mice over 14 consecutive days. The results showed that long-term injection of ETO led to drug resistance in mice, affecting their innate preference for darkness and possibly inducing dependence on ETO. The levels of 5-hydroxytryptamine in the brain, serum, and colon decreased by 37%, 51%, and 42% respectively, while the levels of γ-aminobutyric acid reduced by 38%, 52%, and 41% respectively. H&E staining revealed that ETO reduced goblet cells in the colon and damaged the intestinal barrier. The express...

Office procedures for older adults by physician associates and nurse practitioners
CONCLUSIONS: Overall, PAs performed more skin and musculoskeletal procedures than NPs, and NPs performed more procedures in the other 7 procedure clusters than PAs. PA and NP employment growth does not fully explain these observations.
