Assessing ChatGPT and perplexity AI performance
This study assessed ChatGPT 3.5 and Perplexity AI's performance in answering gastroenterology-related questions from the 2023 Italian national residency admissi on test (SSM23). The study contrasted the chatbots' performance and concordance with test results from prior years. The procedures comprised feeding SSM23 questions into the chatbots and calculating the sum of their scores and right answers. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

Gastritis cystica profunda presenting as an ulcerated lesion
A 57-year-old man was referred to our hospital due to repeated upper abdominal discomfort for more than 1 year. Endoscopy was performed 4 times in the past and gastric cancer was suspected, but biopsy showed inflammation. In our hospital, endoscopy showed a 2.5 cm diameter depressed lesion on the gastric angle (Fig. 1A) and magnifying narrow band imaging observed the central surface structure of the lesion disappeared (Fig. 1B). Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) revealed a 0.8 × 0.7 cm anechoic area in the submucosa (Fig. (Source: Digestive and Liver Disease)

Recurrent calf pain after sport activity
Clinical introduction A previously healthy 46-year-old man experienced acute mid-calf pain while playing paddle tennis. He treated himself with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and local cold application, and took a rest. One week later, he consulted the ED due to persistent pain and swelling in the area. Examination revealed tenderness to palpation of the medial belly of the gastrocnemius muscle. A point-of-care ultrasound was performed (figure 1). Question What is the most likely diagnosis? Morel-Lavallée lesion Pyomyositis Complicated Baker’s cyst ‘Tennis leg’ injury Answer: D Rupture of th...

Biomarker-oriented chemo-immunotherapy for advanced gastric cancer
AbstractThe biomarker-oriented chemo-immunotherapy is useful and promising in the development of new anticancer agents, since the responders can be enriched by selecting patients with biomarkers. Compared to colorectal and lung cancers, the development of biomarker-driven molecular-targeted therapeutics for gastric cancers has been straggled. However, several new biomarkers in gastric cancers have been discovered and clinical trials in enrichment design with certain biomarkers have been conducted. Therefore, there are currently several treatment options to treat gastric cancer patients based on individual biomarker-oriente...

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1611: An Overview of the Spices Used for the Prevention and Potential Treatment of Gastric Cancer
We present the potential molecular mechanisms responsible for the effectivity of a given seasoning substance and their impact on GC cells. We discuss their potential effects on proliferation, apoptosis, and migration. For most of the spices discussed, we also outline the unavailability and side effects of their use. (Source: Cancers)

Doxorubicin causes cachexia, sarcopenia, and frailty characteristics in mice
by Paola Sanches Cella, Ricardo Lu ís Nascimento de Matos, Poliana Camila Marinello, Júlio Cesar da Costa, Felipe Arruda Moura, Ana Paula Frederico Rodrigues Loureiro Bracarense, Patricia Chimin, Rafael Deminice
While chemotherapy treatment can be lifesaving, it also has adverse effects that negatively impact the quality of life. To investigate the effects of doxorubicin chemotherapy on body weight loss, strength and muscle mass loss, and physical function impairments, all key markers of cachexia, sarcope nia, and frailty. Seventeen C57/BL/6 mice were allocated into groups. 1) Control (n = 7): mice were exposed to intra...

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) represent a global health challenge, constituting a major cause of mortality and disease burden in the 21st century. Addressing the prevention and management of NCDs is crucial for improving global public health, emphasizing the need for comprehensive strategies, early interventions, and innovative therapeutic approaches to mitigate their far-reaching consequences. Marine organisms, mainly algae, pro...

Centrally Distributed Adiposity as a Modifiable Risk Factor for Fecal Incontinence: U.S. Population-Based Analysis
Fecal incontinence (FI) is highly prevalent with substantial impacts on quality of life and healthcare utilization. The impact of obesity on FI remains unclear, with differing conclusions using BMI as risk factor. We aimed to determine the association between obesity and FI, and whether this relationship is dependent on the distribution of adiposity (waist circumference-to-height ratio, WHtR). Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1608: Effects of Adjuvant Exercise and Nutrition Therapy on Muscle Fibre Biomechanics in Gastrointestinal Cancer Patients
Oliver Friedrich
Patients with aggressive cancer, e.g., gastrointestinal cancer, are prone (≥50% chance) to developing cancer cachexia (CC). Little is known about the effects of CC on the biomechanical function of muscle. A promising prevention strategy was found in the form of a multi-modal therapy combining mild resistance exercise (e.g., whole-body electro-myostimulation, WB-EMS) and a protein-rich diet. In a previous study of ours, this was effective in counteracting the loss of muscle mass, yet a systematic and comprehensive assessment of active and passive single muscle fibre functions was so far abs...

Association between emotional competence and risk of unmet supportive care needs in caregivers of cancer patients at the beginning of care
ConclusionIntrapersonal EC of caregivers is crucial to reduce the risk of unmet SCN, anxiety, and depression from the beginning of care. Identifying caregivers with lower intrapersonal EC may be necessary to increase vigilance from healthcare professionals and psychologists. (Source: Supportive Care in Cancer)

Successful curative treatment for a ruptured pancreatic acinar cell carcinoma by radical resection following modified FOLFIRINOX: a case report and literature review
AbstractPancreatic acinar cell carcinoma (PACC) is a rare pancreatic tumor type, and ruptured pancreatic tumors are rarer. Computed tomography (CT) in a 48-year-old man incidentally revealed a raptured pancreatic tail tumor. The patient was treated conservatively because he was asymptomatic, and his general condition was stable. After a detailed examination, the pancreatic tumor was diagnosed as raptured PACC. Considering the potential infiltration of tumor cells into the hematoma within the omental sac, our decision is to initiate chemotherapy as the primary course of action. A liquid biopsy was performed, and comprehensi...
