The chain-mediating effect of Crp, BMI on the relationship between dietary intake of live microbes and hyperlipidaemia
Inflammation and obesity are the risk factors for hyperlipidaemia. Nonetheless, research regarding the association between dietary live microbes intake and hyperlipidaemia is lacking. Therefore, this study foc... (Source: Lipids in Health and Disease)

Epidemiology and Management of Patients With Kidney Disease and Heart Failure With Preserved Ejection Fraction
Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) comprises approximately one-half of all diagnoses of heart failure. There is significant overlap of this clinical syndrome with chronic kidney disease (CKD), with many shared comorbid conditions. The presence of CKD in patients with HFpEF is one of the most powerful risk factors for adverse clinical outcomes, including death and heart failure hospitalization. The pathophysiology linking HFpEF and CKD remains unclear, but it is postulated to consist of numerous bidirectional pathways, including endothelial dysfunction, inflammation, obesity, insulin resistance, and impa...

A qualitative exploration of the experiences of pregnant women living with obesity and accessing antenatal care
This study explored the experiences of pregnant women living with obesity in accessing antenatal care. Seventeen women completed a semi-structured interview. Transcripts were analysed thematically. Four themes were developed: 1) antenatal care is inconsistent, 2) additional support is needed, 3) women feel judged about their weight, and 4) weight cycling is highly prevalent. Findings suggest that pregnant women living with obesity often experience weight bias from HCPs, feel judged because of thei r weight and are left feeling confused and overlooked. Women reported inconsistencies in advice and care offered and acknowledg...

Effects of linear periodized and non-periodized combined training on body image perception of adults with obesity: A randomized clinical trial
CONCLUSIONS: Regardless of periodization, combined training effectively maintained the perception of the current silhouette and reduced the ideal silhouette in adults with obesity.TRIAL REGISTRATION: Brazilian Registry of Clinical Trials (RBR-3c7rt3).PMID:38693767 | DOI:10.1177/02692155241249670 (Source: Clinical Rehabilitation)

Differential effects of high-fat diet on endocrine, metabolic and depressive-like behaviors in male and female rats
Appetite. 2024 Apr 30:107389. doi: 10.1016/j.appet.2024.107389. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe complications of obesity extend beyond the periphery to the central nervous system (CNS) and include an increased risk of developing neuropsychiatric co-morbidities like depressive illness. Preclinical studies support this concept, including studies that have examined the effects of high-fat diet (HFD) on depressive-like behaviors. Although women are approximately two-fold more likely to develop depressive illness compared to men, most preclinical studies have focused on the effects of HFD in male rodents. Accordingly, the goa...

Metformin for endometrial hyperplasia
CONCLUSIONS: Review authors found insufficient evidence to either support or refute the use of metformin, specifically megestrol acetate, given alone or in combination with standard therapy, for the treatment of women with endometrial hyperplasia. Robustly designed and adequately powered randomised controlled trials, yielding long-term outcome data are still needed to address this clinical question.PMID:38695827 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD012214.pub3 (Source: Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews)

Risk Assessment of Diabetes Mellitus during and after Pregnancy in Women with Prolactinomas
CONCLUSIONS: Low PRL levels before pregnancy may be detrimental to FG during pregnancy. CAB duration and dose may influence long-term glucose tolerance, besides family history and BMI. Disentangling fetal insulin hypersecretion and insulin resistance
Trends Endocrinol Metab. 2024 May 1:S1043-2760(24)00091-2. doi: 10.1016/j.tem.2024.04.008. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDisentangling which of insulin hypersecretion and insulin resistance is upstream in obesity-related type 2 diabetes (T2D) is challenging. Here, we consider the dynamics of insulin secretion and action in the fetuses of mothers with diabetes. We argue that fetal insulin hypersecretion occurs first, with insulin resistance being an adaptive protective response.PMID:38697899 | DOI:10.1016/j.tem.2024.04.008 (Source: Trends in Endocrinology and Metabolism: TEM)

Diabulimia and Type 1 Diabetes: An Unknown and Emerging Problem
CONCLUSION: T1DM patients need to pay great attention to food quality and quantity; hence, an eating disorder diagnosis may be challenging. Additionally, there are currently no standard screening methods for this purpose. In our experience, an integrated approach is fundamental and may be a valid strategy to face this emerging problem.PMID:38693738 | DOI:10.2174/0118715303314948240419060714 (Source: Endocrine, Metabolic and Immune Disorders Drug Targets)

Effect of postpartum depression and role of infant feeding practices on relative weight of child at 1 and 3 years of age
CONCLUSION: The significant association between PPD at 6 months and child's BMI z-score at 3 years of age, in conjunction with birth trends and high prevalence of PPD, can add to the body of evidence that there is need for multiple assessment across the first postpartum year to rule out PPD as early screening and early interventions may benefit both maternal health and child development outcomes. These findings can indicate the need for establishing support systems for care-giving activities for mothers with PPD.PMID:38698333 | DOI:10.1186/s12884-024-06483-2 (Source: Cancer Control)
