Weight gain during midlife: Does race/ethnicity influence risk?
Analysis of the United States National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 1999 to 2008 by Flegal et al. found a progressive increase in the prevalence of obesity (defined as a body mass index ≥30) for adults of all ages. Most notable was the prevalence of obesity in women aged 40–59 with the 2007–2008 prevalence in non-Hispanic Caucasian women at 35.7 %, while for non-Hispanic African American and Mexican American women the values were close to 50 % (51.7 % and 48.9 % respe ctively). Oncheong-eum alleviated hepatic lipid accumulation and intestinal barrier disruption in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis in vivo model
ConclusionOCE reduces body weight, increases the weight of organs when fed a high-fat diet, and improves the lipid composition of the serum and liver. Therefore, OCE has shown great application potential as a material for obesity-related medicines and health-functional food. (Source: Molecular and Cellular Toxicology)

Anxiety and depression in metabolic-associated steatotic liver disease: relation with socio-demographic features and liver disease severity
ConclusionThe risk of anxiety and depression in MASLD is not different from that generated by diabetes and obesity per se. MASLD patients do not perceive liver disease as a specific source of psychological distress, possibly as a consequence of the unawareness of progressive liver disease. (Source: Acta Diabetologica)

Epidemiology of hyperglycemia during pregnancy in Ethiopia: prevalence, associated factors, and feto-maternal outcomes: systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionAlthough there was some variation between studies, the meta-analysis revealed that approximately seven out of 100 pregnant women in Ethiopia had HIP. A family history of diabetes was found to be a significant predictor of HIP in Ethiopia. Additionally, HIP was associated with various serious adverse outcomes for both mothers and infants in Ethiopia. These findings highlight the need for national guidelines to ensure that pregnant women are uniformly screened for HIP. (Source: Systematic Reviews)
