Bardet-Biedl syndrome with unique manifestations of congenital giant nevi and refractory anemia: a case report from Palestine
CONCLUSION: This case underscores BBS's rarity and complexity, featuring unique aspects like giant nevi and refractory IDA. Comprehensive management addresses renal, visual, cardiac, and neurologic aspects. Genetic counselling, prenatal testing, and preimplantation genetic diagnosis prevent transmission. Limitations include lacking local epidemiological data and prior studies in Palestine. This case contributes insights, stressing multidisciplinary management and prompting further research in underexplored populations.PMID:38694397 | PMC:PMC11060271 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001954 (Source: Annals of Medicine)

The relationship among disordered eating behavior, power of food scale and sensitization of the reinforcing value of food
DISCUSSION: These findings suggest that sensitization to repeated HED food intake and the food environment might be a risk factor for later engagement in disordered eating behaviors. Future studies should address the temporal relationships among these factors and the role that social norms around body weight and weight stigma may play in the development of these behaviors.PMID:38696869 | DOI:10.1016/j.eatbeh.2024.101878 (Source: Eating Behaviors)

Virtually delivered cognitive behavioural therapy for avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (CBT-AR): a case study in an adult with elevated autistic traits
Eat Disord. 2024 May 2:1-21. doi: 10.1080/10640266.2024.2346372. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCognitive Behavioural Therapy for Avoidant and Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (CBT-AR; ARIFD) is a psychological treatment that targets many of the core symptoms of ARFID. Although a growing literature supports the efficacy of behavioural interventions for paediatric feeding and eating disorders, including ARFID, the applicability of these methods to adults remains undetermined. Telehealth delivery of CBT-AR in adults with autism has yet to be tested. With this study, we conduct a preliminary evaluation of CBT-AR delivered virt...

Concerns about fertility, social appearance, and relationships in young adults with polycystic ovary syndrome
CONCLUSION: Young adults have common concerns about the potential negative impacts of PCOS on fertility, social appearance, and relationships. Health professionals should be aware of their counselling needs about the possible physical and psycho-social effects of PCOS and provide continuous care and support.PMID:38695338 | DOI:10.1080/02646838.2024.2348645 (Source: Journal of Reproductive and Infant Psychology)

Medication use before and after bariatric surgery: 5-year results from a randomised controlled trial of banded Roux-en-Y gastric bypass versus sleeve gastrectomy in patients with obesity and type 2 diabetes
CONCLUSION: Both SR-LRYGB and LSG reduced requirement for diabetic and cardiovascular medications, but increased requirement for nutritional supplementation, analgesia and psychiatric medications. There was a greater reduction in oral anti-diabetic medication prescriptions following SR-LRYGB compared to LSG, but no other difference in medication usage between surgical groups was found.PMID:38696831 | DOI:10.26635/6965.6442 (Source: New Zealand Medical Journal)

A protocol of a pilot randomised trial (Action-RESPOND) to support rural and regional communities with implementing community-based systems thinking obesity prevention initiatives
DISCUSSION: By leveraging an existing community-based whole-of-systems intervention, Action-RESPOND offers a unique opportunity to collect pilot feasibility and early empirical data on how to apply implementation and systems science approaches to support obesity prevention in rural and regional communities in Victoria.PMID:38696541 | DOI:10.1371/journal.pone.0302047 (Source: Rural Remote Health)

Diabulimia and Type 1 Diabetes: An Unknown and Emerging Problem
CONCLUSION: T1DM patients need to pay great attention to food quality and quantity; hence, an eating disorder diagnosis may be challenging. Additionally, there are currently no standard screening methods for this purpose. In our experience, an integrated approach is fundamental and may be a valid strategy to face this emerging problem.PMID:38693738 | DOI:10.2174/0118715303314948240419060714 (Source: Endocrine, Metabolic and Immune Disorders Drug Targets)

Resolution of necrotizing cellulitis in a dog using basic wound management
Can Vet J. 2024 May;65(5):504-506.ABSTRACTAn 8-month-old intact male golden retriever dog was seen as a case requiring urgent attention 2 d after an altercation with a cat. The dog was febrile, anorexic, and reluctant to move. There was soft-tissue swelling on the left ventral abdomen that progressed to necrotizing cellulitis. Despite the severity of the wound, client financial constraints necessitated management on a low-cost, outpatient basis using empirical antibiotics and raw-honey bandages. The wound resolved fully in 5 wk.PMID:38694733 | PMC:PMC11017930 (Source: The Canadian Veterinary Journal)

Combined cholecystotomy, retrograde hydropulsion, and choledochal stenting to treat extrahepatic biliary tract obstruction in 3 cats
The objective was to describe the use of cholecystotomy, retrograde hydropulsion of choleliths, and choledochal stenting to remove choleliths from the extrahepatic biliary tract back in the gallbladder. Three adult domestic shorthair cats were presented with anorexia, lethargy, and vomiting. Serum biochemistry revealed hyperbilirubinemia and increased hepatic enzymes. Abdominal ultrasonography showed evidence of EHBO requiring surgical intervention. Choleliths were localized in the proximal and middle portions of the common bile duct (CBD) in the first case, in the distal portion of the CBD and within the major duodenal pa...

Risk Assessment of Diabetes Mellitus during and after Pregnancy in Women with Prolactinomas
CONCLUSIONS: Low PRL levels before pregnancy may be detrimental to FG during pregnancy. CAB duration and dose may influence long-term glucose tolerance, besides family history and BMI. Pre-conceptional metabolic management should be recommended to reduce the risk of gestational and type 2 diabetes mellitus.PMID:38693775 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae289 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)

Metformin for endometrial hyperplasia
CONCLUSIONS: Review authors found insufficient evidence to either support or refute the use of metformin, specifically megestrol acetate, given alone or in combination with standard therapy, for the treatment of women with endometrial hyperplasia. Robustly designed and adequately powered randomised controlled trials, yielding long-term outcome data are still needed to address this clinical question.PMID:38695827 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD012214.pub3 (Source: Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews)
