Comparison of ten policy options to equitably reduce children's exposure to unhealthy food marketing
CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that plain packaging would result in the greatest decrease in children's exposure to food marketing. However, given that children are regularly exposed to unhealthy food marketing in multiple settings through a range of marketing mediums, comprehensive bans are needed to protect children's health.PMID:38680070 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980024000958 (Source: Public Health Nutrition)

The Relationship Between Sleep Quality, Sleep Duration, Social Jet Lag and Obesity in Adolescents
CONCLUSION: Adolescents with obesity reveal poorer sleep quality and a longer duration of SJL compared to adolescents with normal-weight. Moreover, increased SJL was linked to an increase in BMI. Maintaining good sleep quality and less exposure to SJL may help reduce the risk of obesity.PMID:38683020 | DOI:10.4274/jcrpe.galenos.2024.2024-2-2 (Source: JCRPE Journal of Clinical Research in Pediatric Endocrinology)

Twin Study: The Factors Affecting the Serum LDL-C and HDL-C Levels and an RNA-Seq Analysis in Mononuclear Cells in Monozygotic Twins
CONCLUSION: We identified the factors affecting the LDL-C or HDL-C levels in monozygotic twins. In addition, some types of inflammatory gene expression in peripheral blood mononuclear cells were suppressed in accordance with the HDL-C levels, thus suggesting the importance of weight management and exercise habits in addition to dietary instructions to control the LDL-C or HDL-C levels.PMID:38684403 | DOI:10.5551/jat.64882 (Source: Journal of Atherosclerosis and Thrombosis)

Cohort study on incidence of new-onset type 2 diabetes in patients after bariatric surgery and matched controls
CONCLUSION: Metabolic bariatric surgery was associated with a reduced risk of new-onset type 2 diabetes in men and women and in all age groups. Intragastric Balloon as a Noninvasive Method for Obesity Treatment: A Single-Center Retrospective Study
CONCLUSIONS: Balloon therapy typically helps patients lose 10% of body weight. Intragastric balloons are effective when used as weight loss tools, but are ineffective at maintaining weight loss. An intragastric device placed for 6 months may also be expected to help the patients develop better eating habits; however, we did not encounter this lifestyle change in our series.PMID:38684492 | DOI:10.62713/aic.3376 (Source: Annali Italiani di Chirurgia)

Self-compassion promotes positive mental health in women with anorexia nervosa: A two-week daily diary study
Eat Disord. 2024 Apr 28:1-16. doi: 10.1080/10640266.2024.2346373. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDespite the importance of positive mental health, little is known about its facilitators in people with eating disorders (EDs). Drawing on past research, we hypothesized that self-compassion might be a contributing factor to positive mental health in individuals with EDs. In a two-week daily diary study of women (N = 32) with anorexia nervosa, we investigated whether self-compassion levels-on average, on a given day, and from one day to the next-predicted social safeness (i.e. a sense of social connection and warmth) and positiv...
