Best ways to get referrals from y'all?
I'm a psychiatrist and potentially starting a private practice from 0. Would take major insurances, some Medicaid, no Medicare. Open to seeing pretty much anything other than ASPD/long criminal histories, but would like to keep substance use disorders to a minimum. Happy to see eating disorders, functional problems, ADHD, autism evals, in addition to the basic depression and anxiety. Do I just send letters to your offices? Should I stop by and talk to your receptionist and give out... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Worried About Being Overweight and Second Look
Hey all. I know this is definitely an odd thing to post; however, it is something that worries me. I was accepted to my dream medical school recently, and I was so excited for second look. However, I noticed that among the accepted students, I was the only overweight one as everyone else was fit and skinny. I am not morbidly obese, but it is obvious I am overweight. I do think I can get to a healthy weight by the school's orientation week (as I already lost a good amount of weight so far)... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

"Abandonment" to help with adjacent emergency
Colleague came to me with this and I don't think it's quite cut and dry. Wanted to get the sense of the general sentiment of the populace. Anesthesiologist is staffing 3 offsite locations - 2 GI suites (ERCP room, colonoscopy room) & 1 IR room. 3 CRNAs. IR patient intubated and stable. ERCP intubated and stable. Colonoscopy for morbidly obese patient underway and going fine. As far as logistics, these NORA locations are about a 3-5 minute walk from the main ORs/central scheduling area... How to discharge Severely, morbidly Obese (BMI > 50) patients?
For the hospitalists in the group: How do you discharge your grotesquely morbid obese patients? How do you get them out of the hospital, if they're too fat to get out of bed, but otherwise medically complete/ok? If they can't bear any weight on their legs? Can't go to a SNF (because they can't participate in PT). Can't go home (its not a 'safe discharge', despite the fact that many came from their God-awful mess of a home). Can't do LTAC. I have one BMI > 70, total jerk of a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
