Determinants of breast cancer among women attending oncology units in selected health facilities of Hawassa City, Sidama Region, Southern Ethiopia, 2023: case-control study
CONCLUSION: This study revealed important risk factors for BC. Therefore, women should adopt healthier lifestyles through healthy nutrition and regular exercise to reduce the risk of developing BC. In addition, early detection and regular screening are proactive approaches for detecting BC.PMID:38680853 | PMC:PMC11047431 | DOI:10.3389/fonc.2024.1352191 (Source: Cancer Control)

Self-compassion promotes positive mental health in women with anorexia nervosa: A two-week daily diary study
Eat Disord. 2024 Apr 28:1-16. doi: 10.1080/10640266.2024.2346373. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDespite the importance of positive mental health, little is known about its facilitators in people with eating disorders (EDs). Drawing on past research, we hypothesized that self-compassion might be a contributing factor to positive mental health in individuals with EDs. In a two-week daily diary study of women (N = 32) with anorexia nervosa, we investigated whether self-compassion levels-on average, on a given day, and from one day to the next-predicted social safeness (i.e. a sense of social connection and warmth) and positiv...

GSE265911 Prenatal phenotypes and pregnancy outcomes of fetuses with 16p11.2 microdeletion/microduplication
Conclusions: Diverse prenatal phenotypes were presented in 16p11.2 CNVs, ranging from normal to abnormal. For 16p11.2 BP4-BP5 deletion, the most common structural and non-structural abnormalities were the abnormality of the vertebral column or rib and thickened nuchal translucency, respectively. 16p11.2 BP2-BP3 deletion might be closely associated with fetal growth restriction and single umbilical artery. No representative ultrasound findings for 16p11.2 duplication were observed till now. Considering the variable expressivity and incomplete penetrance of 16p11.2 CNVs, long term follow up after birth should be carried out ...

GSE261715 Single cell tracing of Pomc neurons reveals recruitment of ‘Ghost’ subtypes with atypical identity in a mouse model of obesity
Contributors : Carmelo Quarta ; Stephane Leon ; Alexandre Brochard ; Emeline LhuillierSeries Type : Expression profiling by high throughput sequencingOrganism : Mus musculusThe hypothalamus contains a remarkable diversity of neurons that orchestrate behavioural and metabolic outputs in a highly plastic manner. Neuronal diversity is key to enabling hypothalamic functions and, according to the neuroscience dogma, it is predetermined during embryonic life. Here, by combining lineage tracing of hypothalamic pro-opiomelanocortin (Pomc) neurons with single-cell profiling approaches in adult male mice, we uncovered subpopulat...

Liraglutide and not lifestyle intervention reduces soluble CD163 after comparable weight loss in obese participants with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes mellitus
The GLP-1 receptor agonist liraglutide is used to treat hyperglycemia in type 2 diabetes but is also known to induce weight loss, preserve the beta cell and reduce cardiovascular risk. The mechanisms underlyin... (Source: Cardiovascular Diabetology)

Weight gain during midlife: Does race/ethnicity influence risk?
Analysis of the United States National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 1999 to 2008 by Flegal et al. found a progressive increase in the prevalence of obesity (defined as a body mass index ≥30) for adults of all ages. Most notable was the prevalence of obesity in women aged 40–59 with the 2007–2008 prevalence in non-Hispanic Caucasian women at 35.7 %, while for non-Hispanic African American and Mexican American women the values were close to 50 % (51.7 % and 48.9 % respe ctively).
