Identifying risk factors for hypoxemia during emergence from anesthesia in patients undergoing robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy
This study aims to identify risk factors related to hypoxemia during the emergence from anesthesia in patients undergoing RALP. A cohort of 316 patients undergoing RALP was divided into two groups: the hypoxemia group (N ā€‰=ā€‰134) and the non-hypoxemia group (Nā€‰=ā€‰182), based on their postoperative oxygen fraction. Comprehensive data were collected from the hospital information system, including preoperative baseline parameters, intraoperative data, and postoperative recovery profiles. Risk factors were examine d using multiple logistic regression analysis. The study showed that 38.9% of patients had low preoperative ...

Robotic ambulatory colorectal resections: a systematic review
AbstractColorectal surgery has progressed greatly via minimally invasive techniques, laparoscopic and robotic. With the advent of ERAS protocols, patient recovery times have greatly shortened, allowing for same day discharges (SDD). Although SDD have been explored through laparoscopic colectomy reviews, no reviews surrounding robotic ambulatory colorectal resections (RACrR) exist to date. A systematic search was carried out across three databases and internet searches. Data were selected and extracted by two independent reviewers. Inclusion criteria included robotic colorectal resections with a length of hospital stay of l...

Effect of MELD-Na score on overall survival of periampullary cancer
This study aimed to investigate the effect of MELD-Na scores on OS in patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy due to periampullary cancer. Patients who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy due to periampullary cancer between January 2010 and January 2021 were included in the study. After applying the exclusion criteria, 80 of the 124 patients were included in the study. The demographic, laboratory, and pathologic data of the patients were analyzed retrospectively. Univariate analysis showed that MELD-Na score at admission, age-adjusted Charlson Comorbidity Index, adjuvant treatment, portal vein resection, lymphovascular i...

Breast cancer incidence, stage distribution, and treatment shifts during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic: a nationwide population-level study
ConclusionsBC incidence decline in 2020 in Belgium was largely restricted to very early-stage BC and patients aged 50 and over. Delayed diagnosis did not result in an overall progression to higher stage at diagnosis in 2020. Observed treatment adaptations in Belgium were successful in prioritizing patients for surgery while preventing tumor progression in those with surgical delay. Continuation of monitoring BC incidence and stage in the future is crucial. (Source: Archives of Public Health)

Epi-revolution in rheumatology: the potential of histone deacetylase inhibitors for targeted rheumatoid arthritis intervention
AbstractAutoimmune diseases hold significant importance in the realm of medical research, prompting a thorough exploration of potential therapeutic interventions. One crucial aspect of this exploration involves understanding the intricate processes of histone acetylation and deacetylation. Histone acetylation, facilitated by histone acetyl transferases (HATs), is instrumental in rendering DNA transcriptionally active. Conversely, histone deacetylases (HDACs) are responsible for the removal of acetyl groups, influencing gene expression regulation. The upregulation of HDACs, observed in various cancers, has steered attention...

Acupuncture for the treatment of the pain-fatigue-sleep disturbance-numbness/tingling symptom cluster in breast cancer survivors: a feasibility trial
ConclusionThis study demonstrated that acupuncture was safe and feasible, justifying a powered randomized control trial. Preliminary findings suggest beneficial effects of acupuncture for the management of the pain-fatigue-sleep disturbance-numbness/tingling symptom cluster for women with breast cancer. TCM syndromes identified in this trial may be used to guide acupuncture treatment protocols.Clinical trial registration: This trial was registered with the Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry (ACTRN12622000590763) on 21 April 2022. Symptom cluster among cancer survivors from a nationally representative survey: a network analysis
ConclusionsFatigue would be a potential target for alleviating other symptoms through a negative feedback loop of other related symptoms of cancer survivors. In particular, cancer survivors with other chronic diseases should be the focus of attention and strengthen targeted intervention. (Source: Supportive Care in Cancer)
