Survival prediction in patients with gynecological cancer irradiated for brain metastases
Acta Oncol. 2024 Apr 21;63:206-212. doi: 10.2340/1651-226X.2023.34899.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: This large population-based, retrospective, single-center study aimed to identify prognostic factors in patients with brain metastases (BM) from gynecological cancers.MATERIAL AND METHODS: One hundred and forty four patients with BM from gynecological cancer treated with radiotherapy (RT) were identified. Primary cancer diagnosis, age, performance status, number of BM, presence of extracranial disease, and type of BM treatment were assessed. Overall survival (OS) was calculated using the Kaplan-Meier method and the Cox pro...

Radiotherapy plus temozolomide with or without anlotinib in H3K27M-mutant diffuse midline glioma: A retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: This study first reported that anlotinib combined with Stupp regimen is a safe and feasible regimen for newly diagnosed patients with H3K27M-DMG. Further, anlotinib showed significant efficacy for H3K27M-DMG located in the infratentorial region.PMID:38644565 | PMC:PMC11033330 | DOI:10.1111/cns.14730 (Source: CNS Neuroscience and Therapeutics)

Meningeal Lymphatics in Central Nervous System Diseases
Annu Rev Neurosci. 2024 Apr 22. doi: 10.1146/annurev-neuro-113023-103045. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSince its recent discovery, the meningeal lymphatic system has reshaped our understanding of central nervous system (CNS) fluid exchange, waste clearance, immune cell trafficking, and immune privilege. Meningeal lymphatics have also been demonstrated to functionally modify the outcome of neurological disorders and their responses to treatment, including brain tumors, inflammatory diseases such as multiple sclerosis, CNS injuries, and neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. Systematic review of the efficacy of stereotactic ablative radiotherapy for oligoprogressive disease in metastatic cancer
CONCLUSIONS: SABR appears to have clinical benefit in oligoprogresssive prostate, lung, and renal patients. However, the optimal management of patients with oligoprogressive disease is still somewhat uncertain due to lack of prospective data. This will hopefully become clearer in the near future with the publication of further randomised trials.PMID:38648995 | DOI:10.1016/j.radonc.2024.110288 (Source: Radiotherapy and Oncology : journal of the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology)

Analysis of mechanism of core points in acupuncture and moxibustion treatment for epilepsy based on data mining
CONCLUSIONS: The core acupoint prescription of acupuncture and moxibustion intervention for epilepsy can act on multiple targets and multiple pathways to exert anti-epileptic effects, which can provide a theoretical basis for further clinical application and mechanism research.PMID:38649211 | DOI:10.13702/j.1000-0607.20230019 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Virtual reality-empowered deep-learning analysis of brain cells
Nat Methods. 2024 Apr 22. doi: 10.1038/s41592-024-02245-2. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAutomated detection of specific cells in three-dimensional datasets such as whole-brain light-sheet image stacks is challenging. Here, we present DELiVR, a virtual reality-trained deep-learning pipeline for detecting c-Fos+ cells as markers for neuronal activity in cleared mouse brains. Virtual reality annotation substantially accelerated training data generation, enabling DELiVR to outperform state-of-the-art cell-segmenting approaches. Our pipeline is available in a user-friendly Docker container that runs with a standalone Fiji plug...
