The Scope of Practice of an Outpatient Pediatric Palliative Care Oncology Clinic
1. Describe the spectrum of provider-reported pediatric palliative care domains discussed and managed during pediatric palliative care - oncology clinic visits and how these differ across initial and follow-up visits.2. Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1566: Advancements in Image-Based Models for High-Grade Gliomas Might Be Accelerated
a The first half of 2022 saw the publication of several major research advances in image-based models and artificial intelligence applications to optimize treatment strategies for high-grade gliomas, the deadliest brain tumors. We review them and discuss the barriers that delay their entry into clinical practice; particularly, the small sample size and the heterogeneity of the study designs and methodologies used. We will also write about the poor and late palliation that patients suffering from high-grade glioma can count on at the end of life, as well as the current legislative instruments, with particular reference ...

The role of [18  F]FDOPA PET as an adjunct to conventional MRI in the diagnosis of aggressive glial lesions
ConclusionDynamic [18  F]FDOPA PET provides a similar diagnostic accuracy as contrast enhancement in MRI to identify the aggressiveness of suspected glial lesions at diagnosis. Both methods, however, are complementary and [18 F]FDOPA PET may be a useful additional tool in equivocal cases. (Source: European Journal of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging)

PRMT6-mediated transcriptional activation of ythdf2 promotes glioblastoma migration, invasion, and emt via the wnt- β-catenin pathway
CONCLUSIONS: Our results demonstrate the PRMT6-YTHDF2-Wnt-β-Catenin axis promotes GBM migration, invasion, and EMT in vitro and in vivo, potentially serving as a therapeutic target for GBM.PMID:38637831 | DOI:10.1186/s13046-024-03038-3 (Source: Cell Research)

Deuterium metabolic imaging differentiates glioblastoma metabolic subtypes and detects early response to chemoradiotherapy
Cancer Res. 2024 Apr 18. doi: 10.1158/0008-5472.CAN-23-2552. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMetabolic subtypes of glioblastoma have different prognoses and responses to treatment. Deuterium metabolic imaging with 2H-labeled substrates is a potential approach to stratify patients into metabolic subtypes for targeted treatment. Here, we used 2H magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) and spectroscopic imaging (MRSI) measurements of [6,6'-2H2]glucose metabolism to identify metabolic subtypes and their responses to chemoradiotherapy in patient-derived glioblastoma xenografts in vivo. The metabolism of patient-derived cells was fi...

Vascular mimicry as a facilitator of melanoma brain metastasis
Cell Mol Life Sci. 2024 Apr 18;81(1):188. doi: 10.1007/s00018-024-05217-z.ABSTRACTMelanoma has the highest propensity among solid tumors to metastasize to the brain. Melanoma brain metastases (MBM) are a leading cause of death in melanoma and affect 40-60% of patients with late-stage disease. Therefore, uncovering the molecular mechanisms behind MBM is necessary to enhance therapeutic interventions. Vascular mimicry (VM) is a form of neovascularization linked to invasion, increased risk of metastasis, and poor prognosis in many tumor types, but its significance in MBM remains poorly understood. We found that VM density is ...

UBE2C enhances temozolomide resistance by regulating the expression of p53 to induce aerobic glycolysis in glioma
In this study, we explore the role of UBE2C in regulating temozolomide (TMZ) resistance in glioma and investigate the underlying mechanisms involved. Twenty normal brain tissues and 100 glioma tissues from 50 TMZ-resistant patients and 50 TMZ-sensitive patients are included in this study. TMZ-resistant cell lines are constructed to explore the role of UBE2C in regulating glioma cell viability and TMZ resistance. Our results show that both the mRNA and protein levels of UBE2C are significantly elevated in the brain tissues of glioma patients, especially in those of TMZ-resistant patients. Consistently, UBE2C expression is m...

Effects of dependent care theory-based post-surgical home care intervention on self-care, symptoms, and caregiver burden in patients with primary brain tumor and their caregivers: a randomized controlled trial
ConclusionDependent care theory-based post-surgical home care intervention increased patients ’ self-care and reduced symptoms and their effects. It also reduced the caregiver burden. Dependent care theory can guide the nursing practices of nurses who provide institutional and/or home care services to patients with chronic diseases and their caregivers.Trial RegistrationNCT05328739 on April 14, 2022 (retrospectively registered). Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1543: Predicting Isocitrate Dehydrogenase Status in Non-Contrast-Enhanced Adult-Type Astrocytic Tumors Using Diffusion Tensor Imaging and 11C-Methionine, 11C-Choline, and 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose PET
da Tsuyoshi Izumo We aimed to differentiate the isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) status among non-enhanced astrocytic tumors using preoperative MRI and PET. We analyzed 82 patients with non-contrast-enhanced, diffuse, supratentorial astrocytic tumors (IDH mutant [IDH-mut], 55 patients; IDH-wildtype [IDH-wt], 27 patients) who underwent MRI and PET between May 2012 and December 2022. We calculated the fractional anisotropy (FA) and mean diffusivity (MD) values using diffusion tensor imaging. We evaluated the tumor/normal brain uptake (T/N) ratios using 11C-methionine, 11C-choline, and 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose PET; extracte...
