Rare vermian pilocytic astrocytoma with recurrent spontaneous hemorrhage in the elderly: A case report and review of literature
CONCLUSION: PA in the elderly is a rare disease with distinct histologic and genetic peculiarities. This case review showed one of the oldest cases of cerebellar vermian PA presenting with recurrent spontaneous intratumoral hemorrhage, an extremely rare occurrence in benign glioma. Although complete surgical excision is recommended, partial resection is advocated for morbidly adherent tumors. Overall prognosis is worse in elderly PA.PMID:38628526 | PMC:PMC11021065 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_978_2023 (Source: Surgical Neurology International)

Primary extranodal marginal zone mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue-type B-cell lymphoma involving the dura: A case report
CONCLUSION: EMZMBCL is a rare disease that should be considered in the differential diagnosis of subdural lesions, especially when there is no history of trauma or abnormalities in the coagulation system. The patient had a favorable outcome after selecting radiotherapy as the adjuvant therapy.PMID:38628522 | PMC:PMC11021089 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_792_2023 (Source: Surgical Neurology International)

Analysis of prognostic factors and the role of epilepsy in neurosurgical patients with brain metastases
CONCLUSION: Our study has highlighted prognostically favorable patient and tumor factors. Among those, a clinical onset with epileptic seizures can help identify brain metastasis hitherto silent. This could lead to immediate diagnostic-therapeutic interventions with more aggressive therapies after appropriate multidisciplinary evaluation.PMID:38628515 | PMC:PMC11021078 | DOI:10.25259/SNI_735_2023 (Source: Surgical Neurology International)

Transient Receptor Potential Vanilloid-1 (TRPV1) Channels act as Suppressors of the Growth of Glioma
Brain Res Bull. 2024 Apr 15:110950. doi: 10.1016/j.brainresbull.2024.110950. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe aim of this study was to investigate the expression and function of the transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) in glioma. We found that the expression of TRPV1 mRNA and protein were upregulated in glioma compared with normal brain by qPCR and western blot analysis. In order to investigate the function of TRPV1 in glioma, short hairpin RNA (shRNA) and the inhibitor of TRPV1 were used. In vitro, the activation of TRPV1 induced cell apoptosis with decreased migration capability and inhibited proliferation, ...
