The Effects of Caffeine and Citrus Aurantium on Performance During Repeated Maximal Anaerobic Exercise Bouts in Habitual Caffeine Users
McLester, CN, Bailey, P, Bechke, EE, Williamson, CM, McLester, JR, and Kliszczewicz, B. The effects of caffeine and Citrus aurantium on performance during repeated maximal anaerobic exercise bouts in habitual caffeine users. J Strength Cond Res 35(12): 3394–3399, 2021—The combination of caffeine (CAF) and Citrus aurantium (CA) have demonstrated the potential to improve various types of performance. To date, few studies have explored this relationship in purely anaerobic-based exercise. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the influence of an acute dose of CAF + CA on peak anaerobic performance and the at...

Electrospun nanofiber based on Ethyl cellulose/Soy protein isolated integrated with bitter orange peel extract for antimicrobial and antioxidant active food packaging
Int J Biol Macromol. 2021 Oct 30:S0141-8130(21)02332-1. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2021.10.182. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe present work was aimed to produce a novel bioactive nanofiber (NFs) based on Ethyl cellulose (EC), Soy protein isolated (SPI), and containing Bitter orange peel extract (BOPE) by electrospinning technology. The EC/SPI NFs were formulated with different weight ratios of 1:1, 2:1, and 1:2 denoted as ES11, ES21, and ES12, respectively, and investigated by several analyses. Based on the obtained results, the maximum hydrogen interactions between these two polymers, ES11 NFs offered a uniform morphology...

Molecules, Vol. 26, Pages 5832: Citrus aurantium L. Active Constituents, Biological Effects and Extraction Methods. An Updated Review
érance Debs Citrus genus is a prominent staple crop globally. Long-term breeding and much hybridization engendered a myriad of species, each characterized by a specific metabolism generating different secondary metabolites. Citrus aurantium L., commonly recognized as sour or bitter orange, can exceptionally be distinguished from other Citrus species by unique characteristics. It is a fruit with distinctive flavor, rich in nutrients and phytochemicals which possess different health benefits. This paper presents an overview of the most recent studies done on the matter. It intends to provide an in-depth understanding of...

Molecules, Vol. 26, Pages 5452: Simultaneous Hydrodistillation-Steam Distillation of Rosmarinus officinalis, Lavandula angustifolia and Citrus aurantium from Morocco, Major Terpenes: Impact on Biological Activities
a Miguel Interest in the use of essential oils (EOs) in the biomedical and food industries have seen growing over the last decades due to their richness in bioactive compounds. The challenges in developing an EO extraction process that assure an efficient levels of monoterpenes with impact on biological activities have driven the present study, in which the EO extraction process of rosemary, lavender and citrus was performed by simultaneous hydrodistillation–steam distillation, and the influence of EO composition on biological activities, namely antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, anti-acetylcholinesterase,...

A Review of Auraptene as an Anticancer Agent
Auraptene is a bioactive monoterpene coumarin isolated from Citrus aurantium and Aegle marmelos that belong to the Rutaceae family. Auraptene can modulate intracellular signaling pathways that control cell growth, inflammation and apoptosis and can exert pharmacological properties such as anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, antileishmania and anti-oxidant activity. Auraptene had inhibitory and chemo-preventive effects on the proliferation, tumorigenesis and growth of several cancer cell lines through increase in the activity of glutathione S-transferase, formation of DNA adducts and reduction of the number of aberrant crypt foci....

Racemic synephrine found in Citrus aurantium ‐listing pre‐workout supplements suggests a non‐plant‐based origin
The first implementation ofCitrus aurantium standardised reference material (SRM) to compare the ratios of synephrine enantiomers found in plant material with those commercially available pre ‐workout supplements. Out of 12 products, five containedR‐(−)‐synephrine that were suggested to be from a natural plant source. For the remaining supplements, four had racemic synephrine and one had only 5S‐(+)‐synephrine, which questions the origin of the synephrine to a synthetic rather than a plant source. AbstractMulti ‐ingredient pre‐workout supplements (MIPS) containCitrus aurantium as a source of bioactive amine...
