Effects of crosstalk between steroid hormones mediated thyroid hormone in zebrafish exposed to 4-tert-octylphenol: Estrogenic and anti-androgenic effects
Ecotoxicol Environ Saf. 2024 Apr 25;277:116348. doi: 10.1016/j.ecoenv.2024.116348. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlkylphenols, such as nonylphenol and 4-tert-octylphenol (OP), are byproducts of the biodegradation of alkylphenol ethoxylates and present substantial ecological and health risks in aquatic environments and higher life forms. In this context, our study aimed to explore the effect of OP on reproductive endocrine function in both female and male zebrafish. Over a period of 21 days, the zebrafish were subjected to varying concentrations of OP (0, 0.02, 0.1, and 0.5 μg/L), based on the lowest effective concentratio...

Comprehensive Insights into Pediatric Craniopharyngioma: Endocrine and Metabolic Profiles, Treatment Challenges, and Long-term Outcomes with a Multicenter Approach
CONCLUSION: Recurrence was predominantly due to incomplete resection and the low rate of postoperative radiotherapy. It also emphasized challenges in multidisciplinary regular follow ups and suggested early interventions such as dietary restrictions and increased exercise to prevent obesity.PMID:38664994 | DOI:10.4274/jcrpe.galenos.2024.2024-1-3 (Source: JCRPE Journal of Clinical Research in Pediatric Endocrinology)

Survival Outcomes in Thyroid Cancer Patients with Co-Occurring Breast Cancer: Evidence of Mortality Risk Attenuation
CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that hormone pathways may play a role in the co-occurrence of thyroid and breast cancers. Patients with TC coexisting with luminal A BC have higher survival rates. However, further studies on the mechanisms underlying the association between BC and TC are warranted.PMID:38670860 | DOI:10.1016/j.clbc.2024.04.002 (Source: Clinical Genitourinary Cancer)

Levothyroxine treatment in pregnant women with thyroid stimulating hormone levels ranging between 2.5 and 10 mIU/L: A propensity score matched analysis
CONCLUSION: LT-4 treatment was significantly associated with a lower risk of pregnancy loss and a higher risk of small-for-gestational-age infants in pregnant women with TSH levels of 2.5-10 mIU/L. An increased risk of preterm birth was observed in the LT-4-treated group among TPOAb-positive participants with TSH levels of 2.5-4.0 mIU/L.PMID:38666684 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0662 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)

Macrophage-induced carboxypeptidase A4 promotes the progression of anaplastic thyroid cancer
CONCLUSIONS: Our data suggest that CPA4 stimulates the progression of thyroid cancer by mediating between M2 macrophages and ATC cells. CPA4 can be a new therapeutic target for the treatment of patients with ATC.PMID:38666696 | DOI:10.1089/thy.2023.0427 (Source: Thyroid : official journal of the American Thyroid Association)

Puerarin Alleviates Experimental Autoimmune Thyroiditis by Regulating Macrophages
This study aimed to verify the therapeutic effect of puerarin on HT and explored its regulatory effect on macrophage polarization imbalance in HT. Through bioinformatics analysis and molecular biology methods, it was found that macrophages increased significantly in HT patients and model mice. Immunological staining showed that puerarin intervention could reduce tissue inflammatory cell infiltration. Molecular biological examination displayed that puerarin could inhibit local and systemic inflammation levels, and the expression of marker thyroglobulin and thyroid peroxidase Abs. In vivo experimental results indicated that ...

Extra-nuclear tert counteracts oxidative stress and promotes progression in papillary thyroid carcinoma
In conclusion, our data indicate that extra-nuclear TERT is involved in reducing the effect of excessive OS, thus promoting cancer cell survival. Extra-nuclear TERT may thus represent a marker of cancer progression and a possible therapeutic target in PTC.PMID:38670453 | DOI:10.1016/j.trsl.2024.04.004 (Source: Cell Research)

Are the elements zinc, copper, magnesium, and rubidium related to nutrition and iodine deficiency in pregnant Bulgarian women from iodine deficient region?
CONCLUSION: The high Cu levels were associated with subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) and less pulse consumption during pregnancy in an iodine deficiency endemic area. SCH was found in 24% of the pregnant women in such an area while in 13% of them SCH had progressed to overt hypothyroidism.PMID:38669155 | DOI:10.21101/cejph.a7796 (Source: Central European Journal of Public Health)

A Horizontal and Longitudinal Study on the Changes of Aging Thyroid Function in Elderly Male Population
CONCLUSIONS: The thyroid function index of elderly men changes with age. In transverse analysis, the value of TSH is the highest, and FT3 is the lowest in the group ≥80 years old. There are differences between the changes in the longitudinal analysis and the results of the horizontal analysis. Therefore, the law of thyroid function changing with age in different individuals is not the same as that of the same individual with age, which should be paid more attention in medical research and clinical diagnosis and treatment.PMID:38665030 | DOI:10.24976/Discov.Med.202436183.77 (Source: Discovery Medicine)
