Novel immune cross-talk between inflammatory bowel disease and IgA nephropathy
This study aimed to identify the optimal cross-talk genes, potential pathways, and mutual immune-infiltrating microenvironments between IBD and IgAN to elucidate the linkage between patients with IBD and IgAN. The IgAN and IBD datasets were obtained from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO). Three algorithms, CIBERSORTx, ssGSEA, and xCell, were used to evaluate the similarities in the infiltrating microenvironment between the two diseases. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) was implemented in the IBD dataset to identify the major immune infiltration modules, and the Boruta algorithm, RFE algorithm, and LASSO...

National Trends and Outcomes in the Operative Management of Thyroid Storm
DISCUSSION: The incidence of thyroid storm and associated mortality increased during the study period. Thyroidectomy is rarely performed during the same admission, with an overall perioperative complication rate of 30% and no effect on mortality. Patients with acute decompensated heart failure and renal failure were more likely to receive an operative intervention.PMID:38629320 | DOI:10.1177/00031348241248704 (Source: The American Surgeon)

Deep lymph node enlargement and renal failure caused by hypercalcemia ‑associated sarcoidosis: A case report
Exp Ther Med. 2024 Mar 27;27(5):235. doi: 10.3892/etm.2024.12524. eCollection 2024 May.ABSTRACTSarcoidosis is a rare disease that severely affects the lungs and superficial lymph nodes. In addition, this disease can also affect the skin, eyes and kidneys to varying degrees. The present report described a 32-year-old male patient who was admitted to Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University (Wuhan, China) due to joint pain in the extremities. He was diagnosed with uncorrectable hypercalcemia. A lymph node biopsy revealed the hypercalcemia to be associated with sarcoidosis, with the patient also demonstrating renal failure and lym...

GSE158626 Targeting Set7 in an experimental model of diabetic nephropathy
Contributors : Jun Okabe ; Scott Maxwell ; Assam El-OstaSeries Type : Expression profiling by high throughput sequencingOrganism : Homo sapiens ; Mus musculusDiabetic nephropathy (DN) is a leading cause of renal failure with limited therapeutic options. The Set7 methyltransferase regulates pathways involved in diabetes, however, its role in DN is poorly understood. Using a genetic model of DN we show improved urinary albumin excretion and glomerular pathology in Set7KO mice. Single cell RNA-seq (scRNA-seq) identified proximal tubule (PTC), glomerular endothelial (GEN), mesenchymal (MC) and podocytes (PDC) as the major c...

Multicenter evaluation of complex urinary diversion for renal transplantation: outcomes of complex surgical solutions
ConclusionThe mid-term kidney transplant function with complex urinary diversion appears to be comparable to transplants with regular urinary diversions. Hence, complex urinary diversion should always be considered as a surgical option, even during transplantation, if necessary. (Source: World Journal of Urology)

The transcription factor HMGB2 indirectly regulates APRIL expression and Gd-IgA1 production in patients with IgA nephropathy
CONCLUSION: HMGB2 expression is greater in IgAN patients than in healthy controls; it promotes APRIL expression by interacting with HMGA1, thereby inducing Gd-IgA1 overexpression and leading to IgAN.PMID:38622929 | DOI:10.1080/0886022X.2024.2338931 (Source: Renal Failure)

Shen Shuai II recipe improves renal hypoxia to attenuate renal injury in 5/6 renal ablation/infarction rats and effect evaluation using blood oxygenation level-dependent functional magnetic resonance imaging
Conclusion: The degree of renal oxygenation reduction is correlated with the severity of renal injury in CKD. SSR can improve renal hypoxia to attenuate renal injury in 5/6 (A/I) rats of CKD.PMID:38622926 | DOI:10.1080/0886022X.2024.2338565 (Source: Renal Failure)

Mechanism of dexmedetomidine protection against cisplatin induced acute kidney injury in rats
CONCLUSION: Dex protected rats from CP-induced AKI, and the mechanism may be related to NLRP-3/Caspase-1-mediated pyroptosis.PMID:38627212 | DOI:10.1080/0886022X.2024.2337287 (Source: Renal Failure)

COVID-19 and renal allograft rejection: insight from controlled and non-controlled studies
CONCLUSION: In conclusion, the limited number of published controlled studies revealed no statistically significant association between COVID-19 infection and biopsy-proven rejection among KTRs. However, the broader analysis of non-controlled studies showed a variable rejection incidence with a pooled rejection rate of 11.8%. There is insufficient high-quality data to explore the association of COVID-19 infection and rejection.PMID:38627208 | DOI:10.1080/0886022X.2024.2336126 (Source: Renal Failure)

Effects of neoadjuvant chemotherapy < em > vs < /em > chemoradiotherapy in the treatment of esophageal adenocarcinoma: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Although nCRT may have a higher pCR rate, it does not translate to greater long-term survival. Moreover, nCRT is associated with higher 30-d mortality, although the specific cause for postoperative complications could not be identified. In the case of nCT, toxic side effects are suspected, which can reduce the quality of life. Given the quality of available studies, further randomized trials are required.PMID:38617451 | PMC:PMC11008422 | DOI:10.3748/wjg.v30.i11.1621 (Source: World Journal of Gastroenterology : WJG)

Urological complications caused by inferior vena cava filters: a systematic review
CONCLUSIONS: Urological complications caused by IVC filters although rare, are likely underreported, require extensive workup, and pose surgical challenges. Due to their complex management, filter retrieval should be planned for as soon as feasible, and plans should be made as early as during the IVC filter implant. For those that do develop complications, clinical judgement must be exercised in management, and open surgical, endovascular or even conservative management strategies can be viable options and should be discussed in a multidisciplinary setting.PMID:38619204 | DOI:10.23736/S0392-9590.24.05041-7 (Source: International Angiology)
