Cardiopulmonary bypass associated acute kidney injury: better understanding and better prevention
Ren Fail. 2024 Dec;46(1):2331062. doi: 10.1080/0886022X.2024.2331062. Epub 2024 Mar 21.ABSTRACTCardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is a common technique in cardiac surgery but is associated with acute kidney injury (AKI), which carries considerable morbidity and mortality. In this review, we explore the range and definition of CPB-associated AKI and discuss the possible impact of different disease recognition methods on research outcomes. Furthermore, we introduce the specialized equipment and procedural intricacies associated with CPB surgeries. Based on recent research, we discuss the potential pathogenesis of AKI that may resu...

Expanding the spectrum of LAM β2: Pierson Syndrome associated with neuromuscular junction disorder in two patients.
Muscle weakness and fatigability are common symptoms of congenital myasthenic syndrome (CMS), a group of genetic disorders that often manifests at or near birth or in early childhood. Pierson syndrome (PS) is a rare genetic condition that affects the kidneys and eyes. Renal involvement with tubulopathy is usually diagnosed at the age of 2 –4 years presented as nephrotic syndrome. Patients can still develop chronic renal failure [1–2]. The most characteristic ocular anomaly is microcoria [3]. The triad that represents ophthalmological complication includes ptosis, retinitis pigmentosa and cataract. (Source: Neuromuscular Disorders)

Laparoscopic Nephrectomy Via the Retroperitoneal Approach for Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease After Renal Transplant: A Case Report
We report a case of laparoscopic nephrectomy via the retroperitoneal approach for autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease after renal transplant. A 54-year-old male patient with end-stage renal failure because of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease underwent a living donor renal transplant and right nephrectomy via open surgery through a median abdominal incision 5 years previously. However, the left kidney gradually became enlarged. We performed laparoscopic left nephrectomy via the retroperitoneal approach. After dissecting the renal vessels, we performed cyst puncture and aspiration to decrease the kidney ...

Non-resectional cordal repair for Barlow mitral valve disease
CONCLUSIONS: Non-resectional artificial cordal repair is safe and feasible in almost all patients with Barlow valves and is associated with excellent mid-term results.PMID:38511306 | DOI:10.23736/S0021-9509.24.12899-6 (Source: The Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery)
