Complement activation in wasp venom-induced acute kidney injury
In this study, a complement-depleted mouse model was used to investigate the role of complement in wasp venom-induced AKI. Mice were randomly categorized into control, cobra venom factor (CVF), AKI, and CVF + AKI groups. Compared to the AKI group, the CVF + AKI group showed improved pathological changes in kidneys and reduced blood urea nitrogen (BUN) levels. The expression levels of renal complement 3 (C3), complement 5 (C5), complement 1q (C1q), factor B (FB), mannose-binding lectin (MBL), and C5b-9 in AKI group were upregulated compared with the control group. Conversely, the renal tissue expression levels of C3, C5, C1...

The NLRP3 Inflammasome Is a Major Cause of Acute Renal Failure Induced by Polypeptide Antibiotics
J Immunol. 2024 Apr 19:ji2300193. doi: 10.4049/jimmunol.2300193. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDrug-induced acute renal failure (ARF) is a public health concern that hinders optimal drug therapy. However, pathological mechanisms of drug-induced ARF remain to be elucidated. Here, we show that a pathological process of drug-induced ARF is mediated by proinflammatory cross-talk between kidney tubular cells and macrophages. Both polymyxin B and colistin, polypeptide antibiotics, frequently cause ARF, stimulated the ERK and NF-κB pathways in kidney tubular cells, and thereby upregulated M-CSF and MCP-1, leading to infiltration...

Prognostic value of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio dynamics in patients with septic acute kidney injury: a cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: High ΔNLR is independently associated with increased risk of patient mortality and adverse outcomes. ΔNLR might be utilized to facilitate risk stratification and optimize septic AKI management.PMID:38637281 | DOI:10.1080/0886022X.2024.2343818 (Source: Renal Failure)

Immunosuppressive treatment results in patients with primary IgA nephropathy in Turkiye; the data from TSN-GOLD working group
CONCLUSION: CS can significantly improve remission in high-risk Turkish IgAN patients, despite the reliance on non-quantitative endpoints for favorable renal outcomes. Key predictors of remission include baseline proteinuria and specific histological markers. It is crucial to carefully weigh the risks and benefits of immunosuppressive therapy for these patients.PMID:38637275 | DOI:10.1080/0886022X.2024.2341787 (Source: Renal Failure)

Hemodiafiltration with endogenous reinfusion for uremic toxin removal in patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis: a pilot study
CONCLUSION: HFR treatment effectively eliminates uremic toxins from the bloodstream of patients undergoing MHD, especially protein-bound toxins and large middle-molecule toxins. Additionally, it retains essential physiological compounds like albumin and branched-chain amino acids, underscoring its commendable safety profile.PMID:38632963 | DOI:10.1080/0886022X.2024.2338929 (Source: Renal Failure)

Deep lymph node enlargement and renal failure caused by hypercalcemia ‑associated sarcoidosis: A case report
Exp Ther Med. 2024 Mar 27;27(5):235. doi: 10.3892/etm.2024.12524. eCollection 2024 May.ABSTRACTSarcoidosis is a rare disease that severely affects the lungs and superficial lymph nodes. In addition, this disease can also affect the skin, eyes and kidneys to varying degrees. The present report described a 32-year-old male patient who was admitted to Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University (Wuhan, China) due to joint pain in the extremities. He was diagnosed with uncorrectable hypercalcemia. A lymph node biopsy revealed the hypercalcemia to be associated with sarcoidosis, with the patient also demonstrating renal failure and lym...
