Comparing Accuracy of Night Radiology Interpretations for Pediatric Trauma: Radiology Residents Versus Attending Teleradiologists
Discussion: When interpreting PTP CT imaging, RRs had similar discrepancy rates but faster TTI than ATs. Radiology residents had a higher discrepancy rate for PTP CTs than RR interpretation of adult patients, indicating both RRs and ATs need more focused training in the interpretation of PTP studies.PMID:38655777 | DOI:10.1177/00031348241248794 (Source: The American Surgeon)

Comparison and Utility of Intravenous Iodinated Contrast in Chest, Abdomen, Pelvis Computerized Tomography for Trauma Patients With Blunt Mechanism of Injury Before and After the May 9, 2022 Global Contrast Shortage at a Level II Trauma Center
Discussion: There was a decrease in the percentage of CT contrast studies performed during the shortage. A higher percentage of injuries were identified in the patients scanned with contrast. However, there were no significant differences in patient outcomes. Certain trauma patients may be safely scanned without contrast.PMID:38655835 | DOI:10.1177/00031348241248806 (Source: The American Surgeon)

Accuracy of Three-dimensional Scan Technology and Its Possible Function in the Field of Hand Surgery
CONCLUSIONS: In our study, the Artec Space Spider 3D scanner demonstrated superior precision when scanning a 3D-printed replica, deviating only slightly from the original data, making it an optimal choice for nonmoving objects such as casts or medical instruments. For scanning human hands, the Artec Eva 3D scanner exhibited the highest performance, offering accuracy comparable to the Artec Space Spider, but with the added benefit of being able to scan larger objects.PMID:38655101 | PMC:PMC11037731 | DOI:10.1097/GOX.0000000000005745 (Source: Hand Surgery)

Achalasia Following SARS-CoV-2 Infection: A Case Report and Review of Literature
We present a case of a 40-year-old female without any history of achalasia who developed symptoms of the condition following a confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection. Unusually, multiple esophageal ulcers were identified, which are not typically associated with achalasia.DIAGNOSIS: Achalasia and esophageal ulcers were confirmed through a series of examinations, including barium swallow, CT scan, and upper endoscopy. Furthermore, immunohistochemical staining of esophageal biopsy specimens revealed the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, suggesting direct viral involvement.INTERVENTIONS: The patient was treated with calcium ch...

Uncovering a pseudoscience: an analysis of 'biological dentistry' Instagram posts
CONCLUSION: Misinformation about 'Biological Dentistry' on Instagram is mainly spread by financially incentivized health-related authors. Yet, non-health-related authors' posts resonate more with audiences, highlighting a nuanced relationship between content facticity, authorship, and engagement.PMID:38656559 | DOI:10.2340/aos.v83.40486 (Source: Acta Odontologica Scandinavica)

Artificial Intelligence in Digital Histopathology for predicting patient prognosis and treatment efficacy in breast cancer
Expert Rev Mol Diagn. 2024 Apr 24. doi: 10.1080/14737159.2024.2346545. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Histological images contain phenotypic information predictive of patient outcomes. Due to the heavy workload of pathologists, the time-consuming nature of quantitatively assessing histological features, and human eye limitations to recognize spatial patterns, manually extracting prognostic information in routine pathological workflows remains challenging. Digital pathology has facilitated the mining and quantification of these features utilizing whole-slide image (WSI) scanners and artificial intelligence (AI)...

The potential role of SNHG16/ miRNA-146a/ TRAF6 signaling pathway in the protective effect of zoledronate against colorectal cancer and associated osteoporosis in mouse model
Int Immunopharmacol. 2024 Apr 23;133:112125. doi: 10.1016/j.intimp.2024.112125. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBone fracture as a consequence of colorectal cancer (CRC) and associated osteoporosis (OP) is considered a risk factor for increasing the mortality rate among CRC patients. SNHG16/ miRNA-146a/ TRAF6 signaling pathway is a substantial contributor to neoplastic evolution, progression, and metastasis. Here, we investigated the effect of zoledronate (ZOL) on the growth of CRC and associated OP in a mouse model. Thirty Balb/c mice were divided into Naïve, azoxymethane (AOM)/dextran sodium sulfate (DSS), and ZOL groups....

How do different intraoral scanners and milling machines affect the fit and fatigue behavior of lithium disilicate and resin composite endocrowns?
J Mech Behav Biomed Mater. 2024 Apr 18;155:106557. doi: 10.1016/j.jmbbm.2024.106557. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effect of the combinations of two different intraoral scanners (IOS), two milling machines, and two restorative materials on the marginal/internal fit and fatigue behavior of endocrowns produced by CAD-CAM. Eight groups (n= 10) were considered through the combination of TRIOS 3 (TR) or Primescan (PS) IOS; 4-axes (CR; CEREC MC XL) or 5-axes (PM; PrograMill PM7) milling machines; and lithium disilicate (LD; IPS e.max CAD) or resin composite (RC; Tetric CAD) rest...

Isolation of < em > Schistosoma haematobium < /em > in Bronchoalveolar Lavage in an Immunocompromised Individual: A Case Report
We report a rare case of a 51-year-old People Living with HIV male, managed in a tertiary care hospital in west India in May 2023, vegetable vendor who was admitted with complaints of dysphagia, odynophagia, fever and chest pain for 3 days, cough and breathlessness for 1 month. Chest x-ray and CT scan were suggestive of hypodense fluid collection with rim enhancement along right lateral and posterior aspect of thoracic esophagus. All routine investigations and urine cultures were sent, which turned to be inconclusive. Upper Gastrointestinal scopy was suggestive of pangastritis. Fiberoptic bronchoscopy was done with no stru...

Root Hair Imaging Using Confocal Microscopy
Methods Mol Biol. 2024;2787:81-94. doi: 10.1007/978-1-0716-3778-4_5.ABSTRACTPlant genetics plays a key role in determining root hair initiation and development. A complex network of genetic interactions therefore closely monitors and influences root hair phenotype and morphology. The significance of these genes can be studied by employing, for instance, loss-of-function mutants, overexpression plant lines, and fluorescently labeled constructs. Confocal laser scanning microscopy is a great tool to visually observe and document these morphological features. This chapter elaborates the techniques involved in handling of micro...

Atomic Force Microscopy in the Characterization of the Structure of Cell Wall Components
Methods Mol Biol. 2024;2788:81-95. doi: 10.1007/978-1-0716-3782-1_6.ABSTRACTAtomic force microscopy (AFM) has broken boundaries in the characterization of the supramolecular architecture of cell wall assemblies and single cell wall polysaccharides at the nanoscale level. Moreover, AFM provides an opportunity to evaluate the mechanical properties of cell wall material which is not possible with any other method. However, in the case of plant tissue, the critical step is a smart sample preparation that should not affect the polysaccharide structure or assembly and on the other hand should consider device limitations, especia...
