Cytomegalovirus infection as a rare cause of colitis
Rev Esp Enferm Dig. 2024 Apr 18. doi: 10.17235/reed.2024.10435/2024. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA 62 year-old-man with low anterior rectal resection and protective ileostomy, for low rectal neo and neoadjuvant QT +RT. Then ileostomy closure without incidences. On the 3rd postoperative day, he started with fever peaks and diarrhea. An abdominal CT scan showed diffuse thickening of the wall of the descending colon compatible with colitis and colonoscopy showed deep rectal ulcers with punch-like morphology with hyperemic mucosa with erythematous stippling of erosive appearance, showing this ulcerative pattern with numerous...

Developing Low Molecular Weight PET and SPECT Imaging Agents
This article describes the general development path leading from the expression of an imaging need and project initiation to a clinically usable imaging agent. The definition of the project rationale, the design and optimization of early leads, and the assessment of the imaging potential of an imaging agent candidate are followed by preclinical and clinical development activities that differ from those required for therapeutic agents. These include radiolabeling with a positron emitter and first-in-human clinical studies, to rapidly evaluate the ability of a new imaging agent to address the questions it was designed to ans...

Solitary Isolated Oropharyngeal Neurofibroma Presenting With Dysphagia in the Setting of Von Recklinghausen's Disease
Ear Nose Throat J. 2024 Apr 18:1455613241249022. doi: 10.1177/01455613241249022. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA 24-year-old man with von Recklinghausen's disease presented with complaints of difficulty in swallowing for 6 months and change of voice for 3 months. He also had recent-onset difficulty in breathing. Telelaryngoscopy and subsequent contrast-enhanced computed tomography scan revealed a well-defined, smooth submucosal mass in the oropharynx (attached to the posterior pharyngeal wall, superior to the level of left aryepiglottic fold), obscuring the ipsilateral pyriform fossa, and nearly blocking the pharyngeal lum...

Regional practice variation in hysterectomy and the implementation of less invasive surgical procedures: A register ‐based study in the Netherlands
ConclusionsRegional variation exists in the rates of hysterectomy and minimally invasive techniques. The absence of a significant substitution effect provides no clear evidence that minimally invasive techniques have replaced hysterectomy in clinical practice. However, although the result was not significant, embolization could be an exception based on its stronger negative association. (Source: Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica)

Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 1851: A Polyzwitterionic@MOF Hydrogel with Exceptionally High Water Vapor Uptake for Efficient Atmospheric Water Harvesting
In this study, we synthesized a PML hydrogel composite by incorporating zwitterionic hydrogel (PDMAPS) and MIL-101(Cr) as a host for LiCl. The PML hydrogel was characterized using various techniques including X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The swelling properties and water vapor adsorption-desorption properties of the PML hydrogel were also assessed. The results demonstrate that the MIL-101(Cr) was uniformly embedded into PDMAP hydrogel, and the PML hydrogel exhibits a swelling ratio of 2.29 due to the salting-in behavior...

Sensors, Vol. 24, Pages 2599: Co3O4-Based Materials as Potential Catalysts for Methane Detection in Catalytic Gas Sensors
lenstein The present work deals with the development of Co3O4-based catalysts for potential application in catalytic gas sensors for methane (CH4) detection. Among the transition-metal oxide catalysts, Co3O4 exhibits the highest activity in catalytic combustion. Doping Co3O4 with another metal can further improve its catalytic performance. Despite their promising properties, Co3O4 materials have rarely been tested for use in catalytic gas sensors. In our study, the influence of catalyst morphology and Ni doping on the catalytic activity and thermal stability of Co3O4-based catalysts was analyzed by differential calorim...

Accuracy of patient-specific CT organ doses from Monte Carlo simulations: influence of CT-based voxel models
In this study, organ dose calculations were performed with ImpactMC for chest and cardiac CT using whole-body and anatomy-specific voxel models to estimate the accuracy of CT organ doses based on the latter model. When the 3D patient mod el is limited to the CT scan range, CT organ doses from Monte Carlo simulations are the most accurate for organs entirely in the field of view. For these organs only the radiation dose related to scatter from the rest of the body is not incorporated. For organs lying partially outside the field of v iew organ doses are overestimated by not accounting for the non-irradiated tissue mass. Thi...

Prevalence of autoimmune thyroiditis among children with autoimmune hepatitis
ConclusionAutoimmune hepatitis in Egyptian children is commonly associated with other autoimmune diseases. Autoimmune thyroiditis is the most common to be associated with AIH in pediatric patients. As it is not usually clinically manifesting, regular screening for AIT in children with AIH is mandatory. (Source: Italian Journal of Pediatrics)

Clinical characteristics, imaging findings, management, and outcomes of patients with scimitar syndrome at a tertiary referral healthcare center in Colombia
AbstractScimitar Syndrome is part of a complex spectrum of congenital cardiovascular anomalies related to anomalous pulmonary venous return. Depending on the extent of involvement, treatment can be either expectant or surgical. Prognosis and survival have been controversial, with some results supporting early surgical management. This research aims to disclose the outcomes and describe the management, clinical and imaging characteristics of patients diagnosed with Scimitar Syndrome treated in a tertiary referral healthcare center. Longitudinal descriptive observational study. The study included all patients diagnosed with ...
