Synthesis of Au@NiO (Core@Shell) Nanoparticles via Laser Ablation on Silicon Nanostructures for Photodetector Application
AbstractThe synthesis of Au@NiO nanoparticles (NPs) core –shell involves a two-step method via laser ablation in aqueous solutions. Meanwhile, porous silicon is obtained using photoelectrochemically etching (PECE) of n-type silicon. The nanostructured Au@NiO deposited on a porous silicon layer is demonstrated using field-emission scanning electron micro scopy images, X-ray diffraction, and UV–vis absorption measurements. The creation of core–shell structure in Au@NiO nanoparticles was confirmed using X-ray diffraction, EDS, and UV–visible spectroscopy techniques. X-ray diffraction investigation indicates that the s...

Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 1885: Design of Na3MnZr(PO4)3/Carbon Nanofiber Free-Standing Cathodes for Sodium-Ion Batteries with Enhanced Electrochemical Performances through Different Electrospinning Approaches
In this study, an easy and scalable electrospinning approach was used to synthesize self-standing cathodes based on Na3MnZr(PO4)3 loaded into carbon nanofibers (CNFs). Different strategies were applied to load the active material. All the employed characterization techniques (X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), and Raman spectroscopy) confirmed the successful loading. Compared to an appositely prepared tape-cast electrode, Na3MnZr(PO4)3/CNF self-standing cathodes demonstra...

Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 1883: Increasing Analytical Quality by Designing a Thin-Layer Chromatography Scanner Method for the Determination of the Radiochemical Purity of Radiopharmaceutical Sodium Iodide 131I Oral Solution
This study encompassed the establishment of a control strategy and the validation of the method, including the assessment of selectivity, linearity, precision, robustness, detection limit, quantification limit, range, and the stability of the sample solution. Under the experimental conditions, the method parameters of the TLC scanner were experimentally demonstrated and optimized with an injection volume of 3 µL, a radioactive concentration of 10 mCi/mL, and a carrier volume of 40 µL. Statistical analysis confirmed the method’s selectivity for the 131I iodide band Rf of 0.8, a radi...

The impact of urban rain on the changes of bare and artificially patinated bronze during 9-year exposure
In this study, different types of patinas on bronze were investigated during and after 9 years of exposure to urban environment in moderately polluted continental city. Natural bronze patina and artificial brown sulphide, green chloride, and green-blue nitrate patinas were investigated. Visual assessment was carried out at defined periods. After 9 years of exposure, an electrochemical study was performed to investigate the electrochemical activity of the patinas in artificial urban rain. Additionally, the patinas were characterised using a variety of techniques, including metallographic examination, scanning electron micro...

From Growth Inhibition to Ultrastructural Changes: Toxicological Assessment of Lambda Cyhalothrin and Fosetyl Aluminium against Bacillus subtilis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Environ Res. 2024 Apr 17:118958. doi: 10.1016/j.envres.2024.118958. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn modern agricultural practices, agrochemicals and pesticides play an important role in protecting the crops from pests and elevating agricultural productivity. This strategic utilization is essential to meet global food demand due to the relentless growth of the world's population. However, the indiscriminate application of these substances may result in environmental hazards and directly affect the soil microorganisms and crop production. Considering this, an in vitro study was carried out to evaluate the pesticides' effect...

This study investigates the characteristics of the Ba0.67Ni0.33Mn1-xFexO3 perovskite compound, focusing on its structural and electrical aspects under varying Fe doping levels at the Mn-site (x = 0, 0.2). X-ray diffraction patterns confirm the material's consistent structure, with Fe3+ ions substituting Mn3+ ions while maintaining their identical ionic radius. Nano-crystallinity studies reveal single-phase crystallization in the orthorhombic structure with space group Imma. Samples are prepared through conventional solid-state sintering. The Williamson-Hall method calculates crystallite sizes, averaging 37 nm for x = 0 and...

Predictive factors for radiation-induced pituitary damage in pediatric patients with brain tumors
CONCLUSION: Cranial irradiation in pediatric patients is associated with impairment of the physiologic increase in pituitary size; in turn, decreased pituitary height is associated with endocrine dysfunction. We suggest that pituitary gland should be evaluated on surveillance imaging of pediatric brain tumor survivors, and if small for age, clinical endocrine evaluation should be pursued.PMID:38641261 | DOI:10.1016/j.radonc.2024.110268 (Source: Radiotherapy and Oncology : journal of the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology)

Bilateral glymphatic dysfunction and its association with disease duration in unilateral temporal lobe epilepsy patients with hippocampal sclerosis
CONCLUSIONS: The present study suggests the presence of bilateral dysfunctions in the glymphatic system and also highlight a laterality feature in these dysfunctions. Additionally, the study found a significant negative correlation between the ipsilateral DTI-ALPS index and disease duration, underscoring the significance of early effective interventions and indicating potential for the development of innovative treatments targeting the glymphatic system.PMID:38640726 | DOI:10.1016/j.yebeh.2024.109777 (Source: Epilepsy and Behaviour)

Assessment of maximal inspiratory and expiratory pressures in skeletal Class II patients with different growth patterns
CONCLUSIONS: Although Class I patients displayed significantly greater oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal airway volumes, there was no significant difference in respiratory muscle strength or airway function between Class II patients with different growth patterns and the Class I control group. The findings underscore the significance of exploring factors beyond craniofacial growth patterns that may contribute to sleep-related breathing disorders.PMID:38639454 | DOI:10.2319/071723-496.1 (Source: The Angle Orthodontist)

SLA-3d printed building and characteristics of GelMA/HAP biomaterials with gradient porous structure
J Mech Behav Biomed Mater. 2024 Apr 12;155:106553. doi: 10.1016/j.jmbbm.2024.106553. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDeveloping a gradient porous scaffold similar to bone structure is gaining increasing attention in bone tissue engineering. The GelMA/HAP hydrogel has demonstrated potential in bone repair. Although 3D printing can build GelMA/HAP with porous structure, fabricating porous GelMA/HAP with gradient porosity and pore size in one step remains challenging. In this paper, a gradient porous structure with controllable pore size, based on gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) and hydxroxyapatite (HAP), was engineered and printe...
