Indoxyl sulphate-TNF α axis mediates uremic encephalopathy in rodent acute kidney injury
In this study we investigated the CNS behaviors and expression/function of BBB OAT3 in AKI rats and mice, which received intraperitoneal injection of cisplatin 8 and 20 mg/kg, respectively. We showed that cisplatin treatment significantly inhibited the expressions of OAT3, synaptophysin and microtubule-associated protein 2 (MAP2), impaired locomotor and exploration activities, and increased accumulation of uremic toxins in the brain of AKI rats and mice. In vitro studies showed that uremic toxins neither alter OAT3 expression in human cerebral microvascular endothelial cells, nor synaptophysin and MAP2 expressions in human...

Mdivi-1: Effective but complex mitochondrial fission inhibitor
In this study, we could better understand the molecular network of Mdivi-1 by analyzing DNA methylation and mRNA transcription in the nucleus and further investigating various changes in mitochondria, providing inspiration for studying nuclear-mitochondrial communications.PMID:38581953 | DOI:10.1016/j.bbrc.2024.149886 (Source: Biochemical and Biophysical Research communications)

Genes, Vol. 15, Pages 460: Allele-Specific Regulation of the Candidate Autism Liability Gene RAI1 by the Enhancer Variant rs4925102 (C/G)
In this study, we provide experimental evidence based on reporter gene, chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP), and chromatin conformation capture (3C) assays that rs4925102 regulates RAI1 mRNA expression in an allele-specific manner in human cell lines, including the neuroblastoma-derived cell line SH-SY5Y. We also describe a statistically significant association between rs4925102 genotype and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnosis in a case-control study and near-statistically significant association in an Autism Genome Project (AGP) transmission disequilibrium (TDT) study using Caucasian subjects. A nationwide phase II study of delayed local treatment for children with high-risk neuroblastoma: The Japan Children's Cancer Group Neuroblastoma Committee Trial JN-H-11
CONCLUSION: This study indicates that delayed local treatment is feasible and shows promising efficacy, suggesting that this treatment should be considered further in a comparative study of high-risk neuroblastoma.PMID:38577760 | DOI:10.1002/pbc.30976 (Source: Cancer Control)

Novel 6-alkyl-bridged 4-arylalkylpiperazin-1-yl derivatives of azepino[4,3-b]indol-1(2H)-one as potent BChE-selective inhibitors showing protective effects against neurodegenerative insults
Eur J Med Chem. 2024 Mar 20;270:116353. doi: 10.1016/j.ejmech.2024.116353. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDue to the putative role of butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) in regulation of acetylcholine levels and functions in the late stages of the Alzheimer's disease (AD), the potential of selective inhibitors (BChEIs) has been envisaged as an alternative to administration of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors (AChEIs). Starting from our recent findings, herein the synthesis and in vitro evaluation of cholinesterase (ChE) inhibition of a novel series of some twenty 3,4,5,6-tetrahydroazepino[4,3-b]indol-1(2H)-one derivatives, bearing ...

Recurrence morbidity of olfactory neuroblastoma
ConclusionsRecurrent cases of ONB have significantly different stages and preoperative imaging factors. Patients with local or neck recurrence, however, have better DSS than those with intracranial or distant recurrence, independent of initial tumor stage or Hyams grade. Identifying specific factors that confer an increased risk of recurrence and DSS is important for patient counseling in addition to surveillance planning. A Preliminary Study on the Application of Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasonography in Children With Peripheral Neuroblastic Tumors
The purpose of this study was to retrospectively analyze the characteristics of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) images and quantitative parameters of time-intensity curves (TICs) in children's peripheral neuroblastic tumors (pNTs). By comparing the imaging features and quantitative parameters of the TICs of neuroblastoma (NB) and ganglioneuroblastoma (GNB) patients, we attempted to identify the distinguishing points between NB and GNB. A total of 35 patients confirmed to have pNTs by pathologic examination were included in this study. (Source: Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology)

Monocarboxylate Transporters 1 and 2 Are Responsible for L-Lactate Uptake in Differentiated Human Neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y Cells
In this study, we demonstrated that MCT1 and 2 are major contributors to L-lactate transport in differentiated human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y cells from the viewpoint of kinetic analysis. These results lead to a better understanding of ANLS in humans, and further exploration of the factors that can promote MCT1 and 2 functions is required.PMID:38569835 | DOI:10.1248/bpb.b23-00860 (Source: Biological and Pharmaceutical Bulletin)
