Primary Hepatic Neuroblastoma in a 5.5-Month-Old Boy: A Case Report
This study presents a 5.5-month-old boy with primary hepatic NB. This case study describes a male 5.5-month-old preterm infant who presented with overt hepatomegaly. Laboratory tests showed an abnormally high level of alpha-fetoprotein. A sonography-guided liver needle biopsy was performed, so histopathological examination suggested the diagnosis of a small round-cell tumor. Immunohistochemical staining demonstrated evidence of neuronal differentiation in the tumor. The sum of these findings was in favor of the diagnosis of NB. Bone marrow aspiration and biopsy were normal. The full-body computed tomography scan revealed a...

Use of pedicled flaps after oncologic resections in pediatric patients
AbstractThe aim of this study is to review the indications of pedicled flaps and analyze the results.  A observational retrospective study of under 18-year-old oncology patients who required reconstructive surgery with pedicled flaps between 2011 and 2022 was performed. Demographic and clinical variables, indications, complications, and outcomes were collected. 236 patients were reviewed and 13 me t inclusion criteria, eight girls and five boys (mean age: 10.6 years). Indications were Ewing’s sarcoma (5), osteosarcoma (5), neuroblastoma, desmoid tumor, and neurofibroma. Preoperative PET-CT, MRI and bone scintigraphy w...

The Alpha-Synuclein Gene (SNCA) is a Genomic Target of Methyl-CpG Binding Protein 2 (MeCP2) —Implications for Parkinson’s Disease and Rett Syndrome
This study demonstrates that methylation of CpGs and binding of MeCP2 to intron 1 of theSNCA gene plays an important role in the control of a-syn expression. In addition, the changes inSNCA regulation found by expression of MeCP2 variants carrying mutations found in RTT patients may be of importance for the elucidation of a new molecular pathway in RTT, a rare neurological disorder caused by mutations inMECP2. Integrated machine learning-driven disulfidptosis profiling: CYFIP1 and EMILIN1 as therapeutic nodes in neuroblastoma
CONCLUSIONS: This study showcases the utility of disulfidptosis-related gene scores for predicting prognosis and molecular subtypes of NB. The identified core genes, CYFIP1 and EMILIN1, hold promise as potential therapeutic targets and diagnostic markers for NB.PMID:38427078 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-024-05630-8 (Source: Cell Research)

Molecular interactions between gelatin-derived carbon quantum dots and Apo-myoglobin: Implications for carbon nanomaterial frameworks
Int J Biol Macromol. 2024 Feb 28:130416. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2024.130416. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCarbon nanomaterials (CNMs), including carbon quantum dots (CQDs), have found widespread use in biomedical research due to their low toxicity, chemical tunability, and tailored applications. Yet, there exists a gap in our understanding of the molecular interactions between biomacromolecules and these novel carbon-centered platforms. Using gelatin-derived CQDs as a model CNM, we have examined the impact of this exemplar nanomaterial on apo-myoglobin (apo-Mb), an oxygen-storage protein. Intrinsic fluorescence measureme...
