Human midbrain-brainstem classification according to the prosomeric model
In conclusion, the authors highlight the importance of harmonizing neuroanatomical nomenclature with current scientific knowledge, promoting a more precise and informed understanding of brain structure, which is crucial for both research and clinical applications related to the human brain.PMID:38679312 | DOI:10.1016/j.brainres.2024.148961 (Source: Brain Research)

The work performed through interprofessional meeting discourse: an observational study
This study focused on communication during interprofessional meetings to better understand the interprofessional work performed through these encounters. Specifically, it examined how interactional discourse, that is, the patterns of language, influenced work performed during interprofessional meetings. A series of four interprofessional meetings in a rehabilitation unit were observed. Twenty-one participants were observed, including medical, nursing, allied health clinicians, and health professions students. Follow-up stimulated-recall interviews were conducted with five meeting participants. The data collection consisted...

Contemporary validation of cT1a vs. cT1b substaging of incidental prostate cancer
ConclusionThe historical subclassification of cT1a vs. cT1b in incidental PCa patients displayed a strong ability to discriminate CSS in contemporary GS 7 and GS  ≥ 8 patients who underwent NLT. However, no statistically significant difference was recorded in actively treated patients. In consequence, the importance of the current substage stratification predominantly applies to GS ≥ 8 patients who undergo a non-active treatment approach. (Source: World Journal of Urology)

The antiquity and ancestral origin of humans in the americas: a five hundred year inquiry from a biological anthropology perspective
J Anthropol Sci. 2024 Apr 26;102. doi: 10.4436/JASS.10201. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe questions -When did humans arrive in the Americas? Who were they, or from where did they come from? -are enduring and fascinating inquiries that have been approached from different perspectives, thanks to the contributions of archaeology, biological anthropology, and linguistics, among other disciplines. As a result, and after several centuries of studies, this body of research inspired several proposed models on the peopling of the Americas. These models are not only equally unique from each other but also distinct from the curren...

The safeguarding capability of adults in Catholic Church ministries: A global perspective
CONCLUSIONS: We found that people in various countries and roles within the Church are at different stages of their safeguarding journey. Some are still understanding their roles (attitudes), some are still learning about how it is operationalised (awareness), and others are acquiring skills that will prepare them for enacting safeguarding policies and practices (confidence).PMID:38677176 | DOI:10.1016/j.chiabu.2024.106801 (Source: Child Abuse and Neglect)

Chronic respiratory disease in Indigenous peoples: a framework to address inequity and strengthen respiratory health and health care globally
Lancet Respir Med. 2024 Apr 24:S2213-2600(24)00008-0. doi: 10.1016/S2213-2600(24)00008-0. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIndigenous peoples around the world bear a disproportionate burden of chronic respiratory diseases, which are associated with increased risks of morbidity and mortality. Despite the imperative to address global inequity, research focused on strengthening respiratory health in Indigenous peoples is lacking, particularly in low-income and middle-income countries. Drivers of the increased rates and severity of chronic respiratory diseases in Indigenous peoples include a high prevalence of risk factors (eg, p...

Chemical control of medically important arthropods in Panama: A systematic literature review of historical efforts
Acta Trop. 2024 Apr 25:107217. doi: 10.1016/j.actatropica.2024.107217. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTVector-borne diseases are a major source of morbidity in Panama. Herein, we describe historical usage patterns of synthetic insecticides to control arthropod disease vectors in this country. We examine the influence of interventions by vector control programs on the emergence of insecticide resistance. Chemical control has traditionally focused on two mosquito species: Anopheles albimanus, a major regional malaria vector, and Aedes aegypti, a historical vector of yellow fever, and current vector of dengue, chikungunya, and ...
