A systematic review of cardiac surgery clinical prediction models that include intra-operative variables
CONCLUSION: Weak reporting and methodological limitations may restrict wider applicability and adoption of existing CPMs that include intra-operative variables. There is some evidence that CPM discrimination is improved with the addition of intra-operative variables. Further work is required to understand the role of intra-operative CPMs in the management of cardiac surgery patients.PMID:38649154 | DOI:10.1177/02676591241237758 (Source: Perfusion)

Performance of receive head arrays versus ultimate intrinsic SNR at 7  T and 10.5 T
CONCLUSIONS: Major uiSNR gains are predicted for human head imaging in going from 7 T to 10.5 T, ranging from ˜2-fold at locations corresponding to the edge of the brain to 2.6-fold at the center, corresponding to approximately quadratic increase with the magnetic field. Realistic 31- and 63-channel receive arrays, however, approach the central uiSNR at 7 T, but fail to do so at 10.5 T, suggesting that more coils and/or different type of coils will be needed at 10.5 T and higher magnetic fields.PMID:38649922 | DOI:10.1002/mrm.30108 (Source: Magnetic Resonance in Medicine)

Trem2 promotes foamy macrophage lipid uptake and survival in atherosclerosis
Nat Cardiovasc Res. 2023 Nov;2(11):1015-1031. doi: 10.1038/s44161-023-00354-3. Epub 2023 Oct 30.ABSTRACTAtherosclerosis is driven by the expansion of cholesterol-loaded 'foamy' macrophages in the arterial intima. Factors regulating foamy macrophage differentiation and survival in plaque remain poorly understood. Here we show, using trajectory analysis of integrated single-cell RNA sequencing data and a genome-wide CRISPR screen, that triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (Trem2) is associated with foamy macrophage specification. Loss of Trem2 led to a reduced ability of foamy macrophages to take up oxidized low-...

A mismatch between early and recent life stress predicts better response inhibition, but not cognitive inhibition
Stress. 2024 Jan;27(1):2341626. doi: 10.1080/10253890.2024.2341626. Epub 2024 Apr 22.ABSTRACTA growing body of work has found that a mismatch between early and recent life stress, more than a cumulative influence of stress, contributes to detrimental stress-related health outcomes. To date, however, no work has examined how such a mismatch might relate to stress-related cognitive outcomes. We addressed this gap in the current study by assessing participants' (N = 154, Mage = 18.7, 104 female) early and recent life stress using the same inventory, and subsequently assessing their inhibitory control in a hybrid stop-signal/f...

New Discoveries in the genetics and genomics of systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis
Expert Rev Clin Immunol. 2024 Apr 20. doi: 10.1080/1744666X.2024.2345868. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (sJIA) is a severe inflammatory condition with onset in childhood. It is sporadic, but elements of its stereotypical innate immune responses are likely genetically encoded by both common variants with small effect sizes and rare variants with larger effects.AREAS COVERED: Genomic investigations have defined the unique genetic architecture of sJIA. Identification of the class II HLA locus as the strongest sJIA risk factor for the first time brought attention to T lympho...

Unmasking Distorted Reflections: Exploring Body Image, Alcohol, and Drug Use in Nighttime Entertainment Districts
Conclusions: Findings indicated a distortion in participants' perceived body image, with a desire for muscularity among both males and females. These results underscore the complex interplay between self-perception, societal ideals, and drug use in young NED patrons.PMID:38640402 | DOI:10.1080/10826084.2024.2320377 (Source: Substance Use and Misuse)
