High School Grant Question
pls don’t quote During my time in high school, I was the leader of a club that provides community service. I applied for and was awarded a major international grant to fund a service project in my community. After winning this grant, we were able to keep doing the project every year and now it is an annual event. Would this be okay to add to my application? I know the rule of thumb is to not add anything from high school if you didn’t continue for a substantial amount of time in college. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Dissertation Grant Funding - Is it worth it?
3rd year PhD student here (neuropsych focused) wanting to obtain some form of funding for my dissertation. Can anyone speak into their experience of applying for an F31 and if it is worth it to be competitive for internship and post doc with protected research time? I am already in the data collection phase of my project and will still be collecting data next year, but given how drawn out the grant application process is, I'm not sure if I am too far along in my research. It would be nice to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Deferral for Fulbright and WLs
Hi everyone! I recently found out that I was awarded a Fulbright research grant this next year. I have spoken with the medical school that I am currently accepted to and submitted a deferral request, as they assured me that they typically grant deferral requests for opportunities like Fulbright. My question is how this deferral would affect my CTE/PTE. I realize that this is school-specific, but with a deferral, does this mean that the CTE deadline won't apply to me if granted the deferral... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Johns Hopkins University (JHU) Residency Reviews
Johns Hopkins: Pro's: -Strong academics with interesting fellowships (11 of them) open to residents -Diverse clinical settings and patients -Tremendous resources (tons of office space, lots of grant money) -Interesting faculty with many connections -Good peds exposure Con's: -Reputed to be "malignant" -- while I find this to be an overstatement, several of the faculty were not the friendliest -Facilities a bit outdated and cramped, with new ED not to open until 2010... Disadvantage to being clinically focused in malignant heme/BMT at academic center?
I’m a first year attending with a malignant heme/BMT disease focus at an academic center. Right now I’m 50% clinical 40% research (10% admin/teaching). I may have just had a bad few weeks but I’m starting to feel like the research component of my work is burning me out. I don’t mind seeing patients outpatient, inpatient, or working hard clinically. I do seem to mind slogging through stats, worrying about manuscript deadlines, if I’m publishing enough, and if I might ever get a grant. My... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

MSTP Grant Scores?
I've been trying to determine how well the programs I've been accepted to will set me up for residency and beyond, but then I got thinking... isn't this what the reviewers of the MSTP grant application do? These applications contain info about graduate outcomes all the way to junior faculty positions, right? It seems the info on these applications and their evaluations would help applicants cut through the marketing and the vague language/stats on mdphd websites. Is this reasonable, and more... Networking Question
Hi all. I am URM (AA female, low income, immigrant, fgen, pell grant recipient) and will be applying during the 2024-2025 cycle. I see a lot of comments on here about needing to network with different communities at med schools before applying and I was wondering how do I find these communities/do you have any recommendations? I am a CA resident. I’m the first in my family to pursue higher education so any advice would be really helpful. Thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

FAFSA this year???
Just saw this line in a communucation from a school regarding FAFSA this year: "Medical students will not be able to include parental information, however, all need-based grants and loan programs require parental financial information to be taken into consideration to be awarded." I am really confused. If we can't include parent info, which is required, how are we supposed to proceed for financial aid consideration when FAFSA opens? Am I missing something?
