"I'm not a risk taker": Risk Perceptions of Nursing Home Residents With Dementia
DISCUSSION: Results suggest NH residents with ADRD can express risk surrounding their preferences and should be encouraged to participate in discussions about their health and safety.PMID:38651790 | DOI:10.1097/WAD.0000000000000616 (Source: Alzheimer Disease and Associated Disorders)

Commentary on: physical activity and exercise for mild cognitive impairment and dementia: a collaborative international guideline
In conclusion, there is limited evidence on the beneficial role of physical activity and exercise in preserving cognitive functions in subjects with normal cognition, MCI or dementia. The guidelines support the promotion of physical activity based on the beneficial effects on almost all facets of health.PMID:38652380 | PMC:PMC11039492 | DOI:10.1007/s40520-024-02747-1 (Source: Aging Clinical and Experimental Research)

Exercised-enriched blood plasma rescues hippocampal impairments and cognitive deficits in an Alzheimer's disease model
Biochim Biophys Acta Mol Basis Dis. 2024 Apr 21:167197. doi: 10.1016/j.bbadis.2024.167197. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder, and moderate exercise holds promise in ameliorating the ongoing neurodegeneration and cognitive decline. Here, we investigated whether exercise-enriched blood plasm could yield a beneficial therapeutic effect on AD pathologies and cognitive decline in transgenic AD (P301S) mice. In this investigation, a cohort of 2-month-old C57BL/6 mice were granted continuous access to either a running wheel or a fixed wheel for 6 weeks. After that, ...

Reasons for non-participation in a patient survey in the context of prehospital emergency medical care by community emergency paramedics - A retrospective observational study
DISCUSSION: The results show that more than half of the patients were unable to take part in a written survey for various reasons, even though there was no need for urgent care. This could be due to a high demand for care and the complex consent procedure. In addition, further resources are required to provide needs-based care for these patients in order to relieve the burden on emergency medical care. Over half of the patients were unable to take part in a written survey for various reasons. Further research is needed to determine what consent procedures are appropriate to facilitate patients' study participation.PMID:386...

Examining pain, function, behavioral symptoms and associations with engagement in meaningful activity for residents with dementia in assisted living
CONCLUSION: Findings from this study show that pain is a significant factor that is negatively associated with residents' engagement in meaningful activity. Ongoing research is needed to help improve pain management for residents with dementia in assisted living and support their engagement in meaningful activity.PMID:38651198 | DOI:10.1080/13607863.2024.2342963 (Source: Aging and Mental Health)

Dipeptidyl peptidase 4 inhibitors vs. metformin for new-onset dementia: a propensity score-matched cohort study
CONCLUSION: In this real-world study, we found that DPP4 inhibitors presented an association with a lower risk of dementia in individuals with type 2 diabetes than metformin, particularly in older people and those without diabetes-related comorbidities.PMID:38652239 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgae281 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)
