Underfunding of German university-based high-performance medicine exemplified by the treatment of varices in cirrhosis
This study examines whether university-based high-performance medicine is efficient and cost-covering within the framework of the G-DRG system. We demonstrate a dramatic underfunding of the management of varicose veins in cirrhosis in our university center. It is therefore generally questionable whether and to what extent an adequate care for this patient collective is reflected in the G-DRG system.PMID:38616470 | DOI:10.1016/j.zefq.2024.03.003 (Source: Zeitschrift fur Evidenz, Fortbildung und Qualitat im Gesundheitswesen)

How can the potential of internet- and mobile-based interventions be used in the treatment of depression? Findings from a qualitative survey among German psychotherapists
CONCLUSION: The barriers identified are mainly due to insufficient information and communication channels within the healthcare market. They provide helpful guidance for understanding how the increased implementation of IMIs into the care process in the treatment of depression can succeed.PMID:38604921 | DOI:10.1016/j.zefq.2024.03.001 (Source: Zeitschrift fur Evidenz, Fortbildung und Qualitat im Gesundheitswesen)

Reliability of peer review-like dialogue in the German statutory quality assurance program
CONCLUSIONS: The present results are in accordance with earlier findings, which show low reliability for peer review-based approaches to quality measurement. Thus, different results produced by the peer review component of the quality measurement process may in part be due to differences in the way the review process is conducted. This heterogeneity among the regional authorities limits the reliability of this process. In order to increase reliability, the peer review process should be standardized to a higher degree, with clear review criteria, and the peers should undergo comprehensive training for the review process. Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in German early benefit assessment: The importance of disease-specific instruments
CONCLUSION: In Germany, HRQoL has gained a relevant position in early benefit assessment over time. Overall specific instruments are favoured, regarding submissions by industry but especially through consideration by the G-BA in the resolution. Furthermore, HRQoL data can be supportive for benefit assessments, in particular to show that advantages in morbidity and/or mortality are reflected in HRQoL and not at the expense of HRQoL.PMID:38580503 | DOI:10.1016/j.zefq.2024.02.003 (Source: Zeitschrift fur Evidenz, Fortbildung und Qualitat im Gesundheitswesen)

The elective planetary health: Climate, environment and health at the faculty of medicine in W ürzburg: Concept, didactic methods and evaluation results
CONCLUSION: The elective can serve as an inspiration to tackle the challenge of taking the steps from knowledge to action in planetary health education. While an elective cannot replace the integration of all relevant aspects of planetary health into the main curriculum, it can serve as a space for piloting of future curricular educational interventions and offer opportunities for developing transformative competencies.PMID:38575437 | DOI:10.1016/j.zefq.2023.12.001 (Source: Zeitschrift fur Evidenz, Fortbildung und Qualitat im Gesundheitswesen)
