An MCDM approach for Reverse vaccinology model to predict bacterial protective antigens
Vaccine. 2024 May 3:S0264-410X(24)00517-6. doi: 10.1016/j.vaccine.2024.04.078. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTReverse vaccinology (RV) is a significant step in sensible vaccine design. In recent years, many machine learning (ML) methods have been used to improve RV prediction accuracy. However, there are still issues with prediction accuracy and programme accessibility in ML-based RV. This paper presents a supervised ML-based method to classify bacterial protective antigens (BPAgs) and identify the model(s) that consistently perform well for the training dataset. Six ML classifiers are used for testing with physiochemical f...

Acupuncture for poststroke coma: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: The existing evidence suggests that acupuncture combined with conventional treatment may be an effective treatment for poststroke coma patients. In the meantime, more high-quality RCTs are needed to demonstrate these findings due to methodological weaknesses like randomization, blinding, heterogeneous interventions and long-term follow-up.PMID:38704101 | DOI:10.1016/j.ctim.2024.103046 (Source: Complementary Therapies in Medicine)

MPoMA protects against lung epithelial cell injury via p65 degradation
This study aimed to identify compounds from a library of compounds that prevent viral infection that could reduce and prevent lung epithelial cell damage. We investigated the cytotoxicity of the compounds, their activity in inhibiting viral spike protein binding to cells, and their activity in reducing IL-8 production in lung epithelial cells damaged by amodiaquine (AQ). We identified N-(4-(4-methoxyphenoxy)-3-methylphenyl)-N-methylacetamide (MPoMA) as a non-cytotoxic inhibitor against viral infection and AQ-induced cell damage. MPoMA inhibited the expression of IL-8, IL-6, IL-1β, and fibronectin induced by AQ and protect...

The Association Between Adverse Cardiovascular Outcomes in Celiac Disease and the Role of Inflammation: Retrospective Analysis Using the National Inpatient Sample
Curr Probl Cardiol. 2024 May 2:102612. doi: 10.1016/j.cpcardiol.2024.102612. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCeliac disease (CD) is an immune-mediated disease with patients being prone to a proinflammatory state. With recent studies showing an association between adverse cardiovascular events in patients with CD, we aim to further elucidate this relationship. Furthermore, when risk-stratifying patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD), chronic inflammatory conditions such as CD are not included in these calculations. We conducted a retrospective analysis using the National Inpatient Sample database from 2016 to 2019 to inve...

Residual Axillary Metastases in Node-Positive Breast Cancer Patients After Neoadjuvant Treatment: A Register-Based Study
CONCLUSIONS: Breast pCR or ITC only in TAD LNs can, with reasonable certainty, preclude more than three positive non-TAD LNs. Additionally, patients with only ITCs in the TAD LN had a low risk of having any non-TAD LN metastases after NACT. De-escalated axillary treatment may be considered in both subgroups.PMID:38704502 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-024-15354-1 (Source: Ann Oncol)

Maternal and neonatal outcomes in pregnant women with multiple sclerosis disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Pregnant women with MS have a greater chance of adverse pregnancy results than pregnant women without MS. Consequently, pregnant women with MS should create detailed before and after pregnancy plans, in consultation with their doctors, spouses, families, and friends, regarding the necessary care and supplements. Future studies applying a prospective cohort design that control for potential confounders are needed to further validate the findings.PMID:38703425 | DOI:10.1016/j.midw.2024.104004 (Source: Midwifery)
