Intraclass comparison of inhaled corticosteroids for the risk of pneumonia in chronic obstructive pulmonary airway disorder: a network meta-analysis and meta-regression
ConclusionICS class differences in pneumonia risk were observed in terms of pooled effect estimates but it is unlikely that any clinically relevant differences exist. Risk –benefit analysis supports ICS use in moderate-severe COPD. (Source: International Journal of Clinical Pharmacy)

Real-World Registry on the Pharmacotherapy of Multiple Myeloma and Associated Renal and Pulmonary Impairments in the Greater Gulf Region: Protocol for a Retrospective Real-World Data Study
CONCLUSIONS: Although MM is a predominant hematological disease, data on its prevalence and patients' characteristics in the Greater Gulf region are scarce. Therefore, this study will give us real-world insights into disease characteristics and various management approaches of patients with MM in the Greater Gulf region.INTERNATIONAL REGISTERED REPORT IDENTIFIER (IRRID): DERR1-10.2196/49861.PMID:38657230 | DOI:10.2196/49861 (Source: Cell Research)

Impact of Anti-angiogenic Drugs on Severity of COVID-19 in Patients with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer
Conclusion: Our data suggests that the use of anti-angiogenic drugs may not exacerbate COVID-19 severity in NSCLC patients, indicating their potential safe application even during the pandemic period.PMID:38656242 | DOI:10.1177/15330338241248573 (Source: Cell Research)

Diagnosis and Severity Assessment of COPD Using a Novel Fast-Response Capnometer and Interpretable Machine Learning
CONCLUSION: The N-TidalTM device could be used alongside interpretable machine learning as an accurate, point-of-care diagnostic test for COPD, particularly in primary care as a rapid rule-in or rule-out test. N-TidalTM also could be effective in monitoring disease progression, providing a possible alternative to spirometry for disease monitoring.PMID:38655897 | DOI:10.1080/15412555.2024.2321379 (Source: COPD: Journal of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)

Systematic Literature Review on the Incidence of Herpes Zoster in Populations at Increased Risk of Disease in the EU/EEA, Switzerland, and the UK
CONCLUSIONS: The HZ incidence rate in Europe increased with age and varied across high-risk populations, with high rates for solid organ and stem cell transplants, cancer, and rheumatoid arthritis. Most studies were retrospective with methodological differences affecting generalizability and comparability. Future studies should stratify data by IC population, age, sex, severity, medication, and study timeframe.PMID:38656653 | DOI:10.1007/s40121-024-00963-w (Source: Herpes)

The Impact of Postoperative COVID-19 Infection on 30-day Outcomes of Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy
Conclusion: Postoperative COVID-19 infection was associated with worse outcomes after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. These findings suggest that even postoperative COVID-19 diagnosis increases the risk for adverse outcomes in patients recovering from laparoscopic cholecystectomy and may indicate that precautions should be taken and new COVID-19 infections even after surgery should be closely monitored.PMID:38655851 | DOI:10.1177/00031348241248800 (Source: The American Surgeon)
