Heterogeneous effects of hospital competition on inpatient quality: an analysis of five common diseases in China
ConclusionsThere is the heterogeneous impact of hospital competition on quality across various diseases in China. Policymakers who intend to leverage hospital competition as a tool to enhance healthcare quality must be cognizant of the possible influences of it. (Source: Health Economics Review)

Can transesophageal echocardiography be safely omitted in patients scheduled for elective ablation of atrial arrhythmias? Data based on the LATTEE registry
CONCLUSIONS: Simple echocardiographic parameters could help identify individuals for whom TEE could be safely omitted before scheduled for elective CA due to atrial arrhythmias.PMID:38606739 | DOI:10.33963/v.phj.100081 (Source: Kardiologia Polska)

The 2021 Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (GOLD) guidelines and the outpatient management: Examining physician adherence and its effects on patient outcome
CONCLUSION: We found no significant difference in the patient outcomes, such as number of exacerbations of COPD and mortality, when comparing the 2021 GOLD guideline adherent versus GOLD guideline non-adherent management of COPD.PMID:38605771 | PMC:PMC11006038 | DOI:10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_1397_23 (Source: Primary Care)

Independent effect of the triglyceride-glucose index on all-cause mortality in critically ill patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma: A retrospective cohort study
CONCLUSIONS: In summary, our results extend the utility of the TyG index to critically ill patients with COPD and asthma. Our study shows that the TyG index is a potential predictor of all-cause mortality in critically ill patients with COPD and asthma. In addition, in patients with a TyG index exceeding 4.8, there was a heightened risk of mortality. Measuring the TyG index may help with risk stratification and prognosis prediction in critically ill patients with COPD and asthma. Further prospective studies are needed to confirm our findings.PMID:38607315 | DOI:10.1177/14799731241245424 (Source: Chronic Respiratory Disease)

Prevalence and risk factors of depression in patients with chronic obstructive airway disease: a tertiary care hospital, outpatient setting
CONCLUSION: The prevalence of depression in patients with COPD in a tertiary care outpatient setting was low, at 4%. According to the study's comprehensive assessment, severity of COPD was the only factor associated with depression in patients with COPD.PMID:38606670 | DOI:10.5826/mrm.2024.951 (Source: Respiratory Care)
