Sex differences and determinants of anxiety symptoms in patients with COPD initiating pulmonary rehabilitation.
Anxiety is common in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, there is little evidence available regarding gender differences, and severity of dyspnea in relation to anxiety in patients with COPD. (Source: Respiratory Medicine)

Do pulmonary rehabilitation programmes improve outcomes in patients with COPD posthospital discharge for exacerbation: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Discussion Pulmonary rehabilitation delivered posthospital discharge for exacerbation of COPD results in a reduction in hospital re-admissions and improvements in exercise capacity, health-related quality of life and dyspnoea in the absence of any intervention-related adverse events. Trial registration number CRD42023406397. (Source: Thorax)

Detection of dynamic lung hyperinflation using cardiopulmonary exercise testing and respiratory function in patients with stable cardiac disease: a multicenter, cross-sectional study
ConclusionsThe convex group showed decreased respiratory function, suggesting a potential airway obstruction during exercise. A combined assessment of the TV E-I and Y-intercept of the VE/VCO2 slope or the difference between the minimum VE/VCO2 and VE/VCO2 slopes could potentially detect COPD or airway obstruction. Visualizing pursed lips breathing of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease through evaluation of global and regional ventilation using electrical impedance tomography
This study aims to explore the possibility of using electrical impedance tomography (EIT) to assess pursed lips breathing (PLB) performance of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Methods. 32 patients with COPD were assigned equally to either the conventional group or the EIT guided group. All patients were taught to perform PLB by a physiotherapist without EIT in the conventional group or with EIT in the EIT guided group for 10 min. The ventilation of all patients in the final test were continuously monitored using EIT and the PLB performances were rated by another physiotherapist before and after r...

Temporal characteristics and health effects related to NO < sub > 2 < /sub > , O < sub > 3 < /sub > , and SO < sub > 2 < /sub > in an urban area of Iran
This study reports on temporal variations of NO2, O3, and SO2 pollutants and their related health effects in urban air of Khorramabad, Iran using AirQ 2.2.3 software. Based on data between 2015-2021, hourly NO2, O3, and SO2 concentrations increase starting at 6:00 AM local time until 9:00 PM, 3:00 PM, and 7:00 PM local time, respectively, before gradually decreasing. The highest monthly NO2, O3, and SO2 concentrations are observed in October, August, and September, respectively. Annual median NO2, O3, and SO2 concentrations range between 17 ppb - 38.8 ppb, 17.5 ppb - 36.6 ppb, and ∼14 ppb - 30.8 ppb, respectively. Two to...

Reduced plasma glycine concentration in healthy and chronically diseased older adults: a marker of visceral adiposity?
CONCLUSIONS: Reduced plasma Gly in older adults can be viewed as a marker of visceral adiposity, independent of sex, age, body composition, presence of chronic disease, and whole body glycine production or clearance.CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRY: In the present paper, we report the analysis of the baseline measurements from the following studies registered on ClinicalTrials.gov.PMID:38616018 | DOI:10.1016/j.ajcnut.2024.04.008 (Source: The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition)

Left ventricular concentric remodeling in COPD patients: A cross-sectional observational study
CONCLUSIONS: More severe COPD patients, BODE score ≥5, may have higher RWT, featuring a possible higher concentric remodeling of LV in this group. Besides that, a greater disease severity may be related to LV chamber size reduction.PMID:38614905 | DOI:10.1016/j.medcli.2024.01.024 (Source: Medicina Clinica)

Cost-effectiveness analysis of fluticasone furoate/umeclidinium bromide/vilanterol and umeclidinium bromide/vilanterol in the management of moderate and severe COPD in China
A study has analyzed the long-term cost-effectiveness of fluticasone furoate/umeclidinium bromide/vilanterol combination therapy (FF/UMEC/VI) versus umeclidinium bromide/vilanterol dual therapy (UMEC/VI) in the treatment of moderate or severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), providing evidence for decision-making in COPD treatment.
